Should we upgrade to deluxe cabina at BDC?

Hi -
We are currently booked for a standard cabina but are considering upgrading to a non-loft deluxe cabina? Our daughter would sleep on a cot which is fine for a 5 yr old. The lofts just would not work for her.

So my question is should we spend the extra $30/night to upgrade? I like the idea of a king bed.

And if so - please if you can give me suggestions as to which cabina to request if their is a choice. Maybe even rank them of very best to less great and why - would help a ton!

Thanks.

Happiness and satisfaction at Bosque del Cabo is probably not dependent on getting the absolutely exactly perfect dwelling, especially if the choice of same is based on the opinions of people who may or may not have exactly the same tastes, tolerances, values, perceptions, and budget as you do. That said, and with appolgies, go for the king-sized bed if possible, and ask for the cabina, regardless of price, that allows the placement of a cot so that it is as out of the way as possible. The deluxe cabinas are likely to have more space for this purpose.

Well heck. kinkazote has given you bad advice, but from another point of view, if we were there with our little granddaughter (soon to be 5), we'd prefer the standard with 2 double beds. Also, the balconies have rails which would give us some comfort. Most of the deluxe cabinas just have the big verandahs with the drop off edges. Better for adults, I think. Not meaning to make your decision more difficult, but certainly something you might want to consider.

We have found little difference in the size of the cabinas, and absolutely love Sol, which is standard. The verandahs are larger with the deluxe, yes, but again, there is that no railing problem (would be a problem for us).

I'm sure it will work out fine either way. Have a wonderful time. Such a great place!

Oh my gosh! Correction, correction! I meant to say Kinkazote has NOT given you bad advice! How horrible. Honestly, it was a typo, as I would never say such a thing (at least not so directly)!

Please forgive, Kinkazote. We love the deluxe, too. It's just that lack of railing that would bother us. Maybe there is a deluxe that has that feature--you might ask.

Shillmac,

No problem. (For any future disputes, I actually prefer the head-on assualt.) The exception to the verandah drop-off rule is Gecko, where the very large porch is surrounded by a low wall and there is no separate verandah (unless they have added one). The porch is covered and VERY pleasant. The downside (for some) is the built-in furniture made out of cement. Just make sure that wildlife does not get trapped in the walled in porch.

With the compliments of the season,
I remain your obedient servant,
Kinka(jou) (Pe)sote

You may want to consider Tucan as well, even though it does have a loft. It not only has a large porch but the patio is a big stone circle area but not the steep drop-offs of the last 3 deluxe's (Lapa, Congo, Mariposa) which I would not want to take a young child. There is a sofa there with a table that I think could be easily moved to put the cot. And it's a very popular monkey hangout, though of course that can change from month to month. That said, I really don't think there will be a huge difference inside the cabinas classic vs deluxe in regards to the cot; the main difference it seems (to me) is the additional outside extra space.

I'm sorry to see you posting here shillmac and I mean that in the best way

I think Tucan would be a wonderful cabin for you too. It's roomy, has nice views, and we saw tons of monkeys there. It also has a bathtub which might be nice for a 5-year old.

LOL tully. Yeah, Fodoring on Christmas Day.

Kathy from Rancho has sent 2 e-mails today telling me what a gorgeous day it is. Geez!

Hope you've had a good day, Tully. We've been real slugs here. Sloths. Went to see Avatar, though (after we dug out this afternoon); it was interesting. But I'm exhausted from having done absolutely nothing all day. I told DH I sure don't feel like the same gal who hiked 12 miles into Corcovado a few short months ago! Gotta be more active manana.

Clever screenname, kinkazote. I never realized the significance. That cement furniture is an interesting concept. Definitely there are pros and cons. Phil and Kim used it in their new casa as well.

Thanks for all the info. We decided to go with the deluxe. I e-mailed with Leonardo and we are booked in Congo. I think my daughter will be fine with the non-railed patio given that she takes direction welll and won't venture where we don't want. The loft would have been great but she often gets up for the bathroom in the middle of the night and she a very very sleepy head so I would not want her doing the stairs in the dark. The king bed was a big sell for us too. Again thanks for all the input. We are very excited about the trip which I've being working on for almost a year and now is just 2 months away.
