ALL INCLUSIVE RESORTS

Has anyone stayed at an all inclusive resort in CAncun? Is the food served buffet style only? Do you have to eat at certain times only? What alcoholic beverages are included? We are considering staying at thwe Blue Bay Resort- has anyone stayed there?

I'm about to take my first trip to Cancun in November, staying at the (all inclusive) Moon Palace. I know they have 10 restaurants to choose from, quite a few are buffet, but a few are not. All the alcohol is included.

Staying at the Moon Palace also gives you access to all the other Palace Resorts (i think there are about 6 others), and i'm almost certain you can dine at those restaurants as well (in addition to using the facilities there). The only negative i've heard about the Moon Palace is the beach is not great, but apparently their pool makes up for it. Also, it's a little south of Cancun (which is good for us as we don't want to be right in the center of things), but they offer a shuttle bus which i think takes you to the "heart" of Cancun.

You might want to try posting your question at www.cancun.com/forum3 which has a bunch of Cancun addicts and seems to be more active that this part of fodors site.

My husband and I stayed at the all-inclusive Royal Solaris Caribe hotel. There are several restaurants to choose from but mostly they all serve the same food, so it really doesn't matter which one you go to. Ours did have certain hours. All of our drinks were included, but just a note, they serve every drink in a small, 6 oz. glass, so it takes a few trips to the bar if you are thirsty! Overall, it was well worth the money.

Hello Kris,
If you have your heart set on an AI, Mex. Spec. gave you some very good info.
I do not recommend AI's to anyone going to Cancun because there are so many fantastic restaurants there. I feel the food is not as good quality at the AI's, and I have found going AI tends to tie you to the resort more. Plus, we drink top shelf liquors and wines, and I have never stayed at an AI that did not make you pay for them.
This is just my opionion (and certainly not everyone will agree , but I feel people who will enjoy AI's are: Those who don't travel much, those for whom fine dining is not a crucial part of their trip, and those whose main goal on vacation is to relax around the pool or on the beach and not be on the go a lot. I'm sure there are AI's with delicious food, but the 3 I've been to were enough to swear me off of them for good.
