Can anyone suggest a hotel centrally located in Rome that would be in the $100 to $150 range? This will be our first visit and I really don't know where to start.

My goodness, if I had a Euro for every time this question gets asked I could treat every fodorite (minus 3) to a trip to Rome.

Lily, thank you for taking the words right from my mouth. There are several hours worth of opinions here that answer this question quite well.

We stayed at Hotel Aberdeen in this price range. It's near Piazza Repubblica. The rooms were clean, nothing fancy, but it did have free internet accesss and breakfast.

I've also been looking for this same information. I'm looking for lodging centrally located in Rome for the $150-200 range. I haven't had much luck finding previous posts in this range, but maybe I am not looking with the right search topics. If you do find something, please top it!

I selected Italy and entered Rome Hotels in the box and many posts came up.

I would recommend the Santa Chiara as many others do here as well. However, their rates are more in the 200-225Euro range.

We stayed there last year. Excellent location and hotel.

I'd guess you'll probably want to stay in the historic center to be well, central... Great to walk around.

Also I don't know how long you're staying, if you want only a hotel or if a B&B or apartment would work for you. Here's a few links to browse for things other than hotels:

Hi Diane. In April, I stayed at the Due Torri in Rome, quite close to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. This small hotel is well located, with nice rooms (we had one with a tiny balcony overlooking tile roofs), good breakfast and helpful staff. We walked everywhere from this location. I think we paid 240 euro for a triple near Easter. Have fun!

We are staying at the Diplomatic Hotel which is in that price range. The hotel is clean and the rooms are nice. It also includes breakfast and free internet access. The hotel is within 15 minutes of the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Pantheon. Also about 20 minutes from the Collesum. Most of the major sights are in walking distance, you may want to check this hotel out.

We stayed at two hotels in the Centro Storico area of Rome, both were just minutes away from the Piazza Navonna and Pantheon. The location cannot be beat and the neighborhoods are lovely.

The Colonna Palace hotel is might be a bit more expensive than your budget but the room was quite large and the rooftop breakfast room has a terrific view of Rome.

The Hotel Portoghesi might be more in line with your budget. The room was small but it had a new marble bathroom and a window overlooking rooftops. The neighborhood is so quaint with little shops and a beautiful church next door.
