Hi. I am considering spending a month or so either in Italy or in France. Any suggestions for cities? I was thinking or Verona and Naples in Italy and Nice in France. I am primarily looking for places that have many fun things to do.

And what do you consider fun things to do?

We did a month in 2010 in Southwest France. We stayed just outside of Perpignan in a flat some friends of ours loaned us, in a beach town. It was November, and we had a car to travel the whole region. We were looking for someplace to stay for a longer time, and our two favorite places turned out to be Pezenas and Uzes.

So that was France. We did 2 weeks outside Spoleto in Umbria this past Fall, and it was one of the best vacations we've ever had. I'd stay there for a month, too. Easy to get around a very large part of Italy from there. So that's my suggestion for Italy!

The time of year would be spring, like this Feb,March, or April.

I like museums, eating good food made from fresh natural ingredients, gambling, site seeing, amusement parks, adventure sports, etc. And I only like driving if I have to go on a day trip or out of town.

It can get very cold in Verona during Feb-April, but if you are prepared for that, it would offer you access to everything you want, including being within striking distance of the casino in Venice. I think the nearest amusement parks will all be closed. Verona puts you in a good position to not only visit the mountains, but to take quick hops to nearby places like Ravenna, or Venice, or Bologna, or Mantova or Milan -- the list goes on and on -- and all of them have great cultural attractions and museums.

You'd mainly need to settle for hiking in the region of Naples for your outdoors adventures in winter, but it is filled with a lot of fascination and I much prefer the food there, and the winter climate. It is a lot cheaper than Verona. It also has several of Europe's best museums, many with such incredible collections you can easily visit them more than once. All together, it is a much more compelling place than Verona -- but I think the only gambling people do is crossing the street and betting their lives they'll make it to the other side safely.

PS: Verona is a much calmer, prettier place than Naples, and many people love it just to stroll around and enjoy. Naples is quite diffferent, and I happen to love it equally, but it is a totally different experience of any other city in Italy.

I guess I should add that i love wolves and i recall Italy has a small wolf population. any idea where they'd be?

I think they are mainly in the Appenines, though of course they can travel.
