Ira, get your facts right.
This is from "Venice for Visitors":
If your cruise line isn't providing transfers, you can reach your ship by land taxi from the airport for about €30 to €35. A water taxi is more fun, but you'll pay €80 or more for the trip.

Ira: I just learned something (learn something new every day on this forum!). The link above to cruise critic says that the cruise ship docks are just off the bridge that connects the mainland with Venice, so land taxis can go directly from the airport to the docks across this bridge.

Cruises ships have several berths in Venezia. Most use the Stazione Marittima or San Basilio, which are both accessible by road. Some use Riva Settemartire which is along the waterfront from Piazza San Marco and can only be reached by boat or on foot.

Having just been there in April the taxi does take you to the terminal. Basically there are two ways well three to get there.
Water Taxi very expensive
Taxi to terminal 20 min appx $35e+bag fee if you have lots of bags
Blue Bus $5e to Pizza R then either walk or if your ship offers shuttle to pier then that. Some lines offer the shuttle some do not.
If you Bus and have several bags you really need to take a taxi to terminal the walk is short (10-15min) but up hill about half the way and dragging a full bag its not a picnic I did it, with small 22"bag and was very happy to see the luggage area. Where you then walk about another 5 min to the terminal building to check in.
