Transporation from train station in Prague

We will be arriving in Prague by train from Budapest shortly. Have read different opinions on how to get to our hotel. Is it better to arrange a private car service of take a taxi? If private, does anyone have the name of any? Is there that much of a difference in the price, and what should the price be? We are staying at Prague Marriott Hotel V Celnici 8 Prague. Thanks for any info you can give me.

you can actually walk it would only take about 5 minutes. You could get there by metro but would have to go one stop, change lines then go another stop and it would probably take longer and end up walking further than a straight walk from the train station. There is a fair pay taxi service at the train station now again due to one way syatems and traffic you cpould walk it quicker.. You could even take the tram 1stop, just turn right as you come out the train station and take any of the 3 trams (5,9,26) that pass one stop to Masarykovo Nadrazni and the hotel is about a minutes walk round the cornerfrom the tram stop.
As long as you are not heavily burdened with luggage I would walk ,just check google maps for the route.

WHICH station are you arriving in? Hlavni Nadrazi (the main station) or Holesovice?

Hi,
You can hire local car rentals by searching it from the web. It will be a convenient option if you want to travel nearby locations. One more thing, you can compare the prices and discuss it with different rental companies. There is no need to take decision over their price, you can ask for discounts and available packages. This will help you get the desired offer in minimum cost.

I hope, this will help you out. Have a nice stay there.

good point Dukey1 ,sorry I should have asked which station ,I have presumed its the main one Hlavni often abbreviated to Hl.n.
if it is Holesovice I would try and arrange a private transfer, its not the nicest of places though you can get the No24 tram from outside to the Masarykova stop I mentioned earlier, you can aslo use the metro but would have to change at Florenc.

Are those pickpockets at Hlavni as thick as they used to be? When I arrived at Holesovice in the past I generally either had the hotel arrange for a driver or I've gotten a cab.

The train station at Hlavani has been completely transformed over the last few years, now more like a shopping mall than a train station, lovely bright place, even the park outside has been tidied up quite a bit and lots of trees and bushes cut back. I was last in there in June this year and will be back there in the middle of October. Still one or two vagrants about but nowhere near the problems that plagued the place years ago and these folk seemed to have been kept out of the actual station but you might see them sleeping/drinking on the benches outside.
Unfortunetly Holesovice is still very much the dump it has always been but maybe they will be doing something about it.

We stayed just across the street at the Hilton in July. First, the Hilton had a private car service associated directly with them. You could try calling the Marriott and seeing if the concierge or front desk can make the arrangements for you. I would want transportation if I was schlepping luggage.

Thought I would pass along a couple of recommendations for the area: our hotel did not come with breakfast, there is a lovely French style bistro across the street from the Marriott and to your left, maybe 2 min walk. They have terrific breakfast and lunch and free wi-fi. There is also a Billa grocery store catty corner from the French bistro which we used to purchase soft drinks, water and snacks. There was a flea market going on most mornings in the public square (Republic?) just outside the Billa where we purchased a few souvenirs. We also ate at Cafe Imperial, a block away from the Marriott, which was pretty good Czech food, the setting is very Art Deco and interesting. Have fun!

Unclegus,

Thank you very much for your response re the pickpockets, etc. I'm sorry I won't be able to visit Prague again for a while but nice to know things have improved. Lovely city and people, for sure.

Thanks everyone for your responses. LBloom, I will call the hotel to see about transportation, and thanks for the suggestions for breakfast and places to eat. Hate spending a lot of money on breakfast, when I usually don't eat much, but need my coffee. If the transportation thing doesn't work out with the hotel, I guess we will try and walk. Not that much luggage only 1 med. bag each and a napsack each. We took a taxi in Milan and found out we were only a block away from the station. Poor planning! We walked back. Thanks again.

All the hotels I've stayed at have a service they use and they arrange it. I really like that as first, I know a private driver isn't going to want to antagonize a hotel client, and they have fixed rates that can go right on your hotel bill. I kind of know going rates so can judge if it is an acceptable price to me. I wouldn't want to arrange a private car service on my own, don't see any advantage to it.
