Spanish leather -- women's leather vest
Greetings!
I wonder where I would be able to find a leather vest while in Spain this fall. One of the ladies in our group wants to get one but I would assume it's not as easy to find as some other more typical leather times. We might have a little time to look for it while we are in Granada-Seville-Madrid. We'll have a full day dedicated to getting gifts and such in Madrid on our last day (alas a Sunday).
If anyone can suggest a particular store, maker, or area to look for something like that, that'd be great!
Thank you!

Oops... ! I had no idea! I kind of assumed that's what it's called
) Maybe it's a waistcoat? But not the type men wear with a jacket. Just to be worn on its own. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/EyQAAO...-R~/s-l300.jpg
I should have added that the lady is about 75, so probably she wants something classy, stylish, conservative. to be honest I just did a search for "leather vest" on the net...and i think we'll have a very hard time find one!

That isn't a common thing for women to wear (a leather vest) anywhere. Women's vests that I've seen are typically part of an entire pants suit designed combo, unless into an alternative goth/motorcyle/weird kinky things (leather ones) or a neo-hippie look with fringe, or a sweater vest or outdoor down vest. SHe doesn't want a suede one, does she?
In Spanish, a vest is a chaleco.
Here is one place in Madrid that has a few for women, you can see they cater to Harley riders or something
http://www.jogamoto.com/moto/chalecos-custom.html
Here is a company with a lot of women's leather things, dresses, pants, bustiers, jackets, etc.

I just am not clear what she really wants, but I don't think you will easily find it.

I'm no Spain expert, only been there a handful of times, but leather vests are simply not something you see very often anywhere in Western Europe. I suggest she buy on the internet or think of something else to buy. If she's thinking it's something emblematic of Spain...no.

Cannot imagine how a leather vest would fit into the wardrobe of an elderly lady. Here it's usual either neo hippie or trendy, perhaps with fringes, and worn over a tee or shirt - or the biker type.
I would have her look online and find an example of what she wants and print out - so someone in the hotel can reco a place she might get it. If she can't find one online doubt she will find one in Spain.
She might start at wilsonsleather.com or amazon.

I bet the lady has a specific reason for this quest--she may remember a vest that someone got in Spain, or saw one in a magazine, who knows?
I think nyt's suggestion is great, if she can find an image of what she has in mind and if the hotel's concierge or front desk staff are savvy.
Good luck!

Thank you all! You guys are great!
NewbE, found the unicorn comparison funny and to the point
I agree that spending too much time looking for something vague or too specific but hard to find is wasteful while traveling. A friend of mine spent 4 days in Tokyo looking for purple sneakers for her niece…..only to ship them back to me 2 weeks later for a return. The niece didn’t like the style ☺))
Christina, thank you for the Spanish mini-lesson
Yes, I would assume that vests (especially leather) are not that common. Thank you for the links. Will peruse them to see what’s available as we are all interested in getting some leather goods (not vests!) while in Spain.
StCirq, yes, I think the look might be a bit dated. I remember my sister having a suede vest in the 90s. I doubt she wears it anymore.
Nytraveler, perfect suggestion! I will browse the Internet with her to see if anything reminds her of what she wants to have. I doubt it’s a biker style or anything too scandalous
I think it might be a bit of nostalgia sort of thing. Something she used to have or saw somewhere before.
Thank you all again very much for your thoughts and comments!

Try searching for "Leather Waistcoat" and you may have more luck. A vest in Europe is an undergarment as worn by Bruce Willis in Die Hard.

Rubicund, the picture of Bruice Willis made me smile. I didn't know that "vest" is what he's wearing. I guess I would call it a tank top but maybe I'm wrong.
Thank you for the advice! Will be looking for a waistcoat instead.
