shoes in the 7th?

Greetings,

In the favorite arrondissement post, someone mentioned the 7th as the favorite shoe-shopping spot. Please give us a little more information--where and what kind---expensive, designer shoes, wonderful find shoes, darling French ballet flats in many colors (personal fave and always seeking new shops which sell them). Shoe-nuts will understand--the rest please shrug and move-on. Thanks.

Robyn,
I am planning on stopping at Jezabel, #49 Rue Cler (M: ecole militaire) where I heard they sell Mephistos at a great price. I haven't been yet, so take my recommendation as hearsay!

You'll find some great designer shoe shops on Rue du Dragon, Rue de Grenelle and some less expensive ones on Rue St. Placide, in the 6th.
Next to that, Le Bon Marche department store has an excellent shoe department. Most designers, but also more affordable brands such as Carel.
There are some nice and not extremely expensive shoe shops on Rue Brea and Rue Vavin, south of Luxembourg Gardens.
Rue Delambre, 14th, off Blvd. Montparnasse, has a couple of good shops as well.
Personally, I don't find the 7th to be particularly great for shoe shopping.

Hi Karen--will look forward to your response--when r u going? We won't be in Paris until May, but I'll be on the hunt for shoes when we are there--we are staying in the 7th so that will be convenient--I usually have little time shopping so try to use it wisely.

Take care and bon voyage,
Robyn France

You might want to have a look at J.M. Weston.
Very high quality (and expensive) loafers.
Located at:
- Galeries Lafayette
- Printemps
- 114, Champs-Elysees
- 49, Rue de Rennes.
Just to mention a few branches.

Robyn,
Looks like you've already gotten expert advice! I am leaving Wednesday for Paris (I love saying that!!!) so I'll post a report when I return. I'm like you, I was researching everything MONTHS in advance too, its just too fun!

We were in Paris in Oct and found that Galeries Lafeyte had the biggest shoe department ever and carried all the brands that the smaller stores had. As a tourist, we also saved 10%.

If you want Mephistos at 1/2 price, try Jezebel Chaussere on the Rue Cler. Very nice owner; speaks English. Bought 2 pairs there last March.

If you shop at Galeries you get the 10% plus they will do the VAT for you if you spend more than 175?--not hard if you're buying Mephistos even at half price. Jezebel is an absolutely minute sales area with stacks and stacks of shoe boxes!! Husband tried to buy a pair but there just wasn't enough room to make a decision!! But it is a nice store.

Thanks for so much good info! 2 Questions on the posts thus far.

1. Do they have more styles in the Mephistos than we see here?
2. Have you seen a big selection of the chanel-style ballet flats at any particular shoe stores?

Many thanks! I'm a shoe lover.

Take care,
Robyn France

Forgive my shoe ignorance...but what are Mephistos and why are these shoes so great? What would they normally retail for in N.America ..I presume most of you will tell me in $US...so I'll convert to $Cnd. Do they make more of a casual shoe or dressy or both?
