northie - Cheika certainly did a great job, not dissimilar to the feats of Darren Lehmann in turning the cricketers round; apropos of which they didn't have a bad day did they?

We are able to torture ourselves by listening to the match live on the radio, all through the night [and with daily "highlights"] should we be of masochistic tendencies.

I see Sam Burgess did the job we sent him to do, and now will return to rugby league and South Sydney - with his brothers

what a surprise - not! I don't see this as Sam's fault at all - it was ridiculous to think that he could learn RU within 12 months, and then to blame him rather than the idiots who selected him. That's not to say that he played particularly badly, but that's not the point - is England so short of players that they need to import a RL player who is learning the game from scratch?

ok it worked for a very few others - Jason Robinson, the Paul brothers, Martin Offiah [who went the other way] Jonathan Davies, but they were all exceptional footballers.

But it was on the cards even during the RWC that he'd be going back to RL and all the talk about him staying on at Bath was either naive or a smoke-screen. Ironically it meant that he was unavailable for the RL tests v NZ but it turned out we didn't need him!

Israel Folau going for from rugby league to AFL (which he was not very successful at but got lots of money for)then to rugby union.I think that's the sequence.

good for Israel - he certainly is a success at RU! and of course Sonny Bill has managed to make the transition - each way! but they are exceptions, I think.

as for our cricket, heaven help us. the BBC statistician came up with a great record broken today - the least runs scored by nos 3-7 - i.e. 8 - since 18 something or other in Sydney.

as for your lot at the Gabba - don't rub it in. if you carry on like that, I'll mention the A word.

nelsonian - I saw the clips of the team being welcomed at the airport with a Haka done by the staff - just excellent. The kids must be so excited!
