We stayed at the Hotel del Senato in August 2003 - it was magical. From room 603, we were looking at the roof and entrance of the Pantheon. At night from the rooftop bar, we were looking at the lights of Rome. In the mornings, when we opened our floor to ceiling windows, we could watch the activity of the piazza below - before the tourists arrived - the restaurants setting up for the day, the young people feeding their dogs on the street, the pigeons doing whatever they do. From looking at their site recently, the price has risen considerably (they must believe their own press on venere.com - that's what got us there) but if only for one night, think about it. The location is right on - we walked everywhere but the Vatican. The breakfast - fantastic; we still talk about the blood orange juice and cantaloupe. The staff welcoming and helpful. The room impeceble. I'm going back someday - at least in my dreams.

Hi.

We have booked the Hotel Lancelot in Rome for our upcoming trip this September. It has been given very good reviews on Fodors and Trip Advisor.

One of the attractions for us was this hotel has great views of the Colosseum from many of their rooms with balconies.

When are you planning to go?

For specific advice you really need to tell us when you are traveling,, how many your are and what you mean by ?not too high" in price.

The del Senato gets good reviews and has the location you asked for - but I doubt would be within your price range (at least $300 plus per night) - but perhaps I'm wrong.

You don't have to stay at the Albergo del Senato to enjoy their magnificent view from the rooftop terrace at sunset. Go up, have a lovely cocktail (with cocktail nuts) and prepare to be awed by what you see. You're far from the madding crowds below on the Piazza del Pantheon.

The Del Senato's rooftop terrace gets my vote for the best in all of Rome.

Another vote for Lancelot Hotel. Book a 6th floor room with balcony. The view of the Colosseum is outstanding!!

We stayed at the Lancelot in Sept 2004 and we are returning this Sept for three nights. We are staying in a sixth floor room with balcony for 180E per night which includes breakfast.

Lovely hotel and lovely staff!!

We have a trip planned to Rome next month and we are booked at a hotel called Fontana Hotel. It boasts some marvelous views of the Trevi Fountain. The pictures on their website certainly support their claims. My only concern is the noise factor, however, who really goes to Rome to sleep! You may want to look them up. http://karenbrown.com/property.asp?propid=10615

lynzy - I've booked the Fontana Hotel as well for our last night in Rome during the second week of August. I know it probably will be noisy, but it looks so beautiful and it will be fun and romantic to sit around the fountain at night. I can always sleep on the plane home.

Well, Italiangirl, since we'll have returned before you leave for Rome, I'll be sure to let you know how the Fontana Hotel turns out. We have high hopes!
