I'm not at all surprised. I've toured there twice (in 1999 and 2004) and the amount of damage sustained by the paintings during that five year pd shocked me--Damage from water, humidity, and tourists' breathing (CO2). I remember one painting in particular that was freshly discovered and beautifully preserved in 1999 and was running-down-the-wall illegible in 2004.

I'm glad I've had my shot(s) already! I have a feeling it will end up being longer than 2 yrs...

How sad that I, too, will miss this! However, just another reason to travel to Rome again! Thanks for the heads-up, Walter.

How sad. Makes one want to go quickly back and see everything one can before more sites shut down. But the implications for posterity are chilling.

I just came across this article http://www.guardian.co.uk/italy/stor...833952,00.html

They are now saying 3yrs (yea right ) but what was interesting is that they plan to excavate the ruins, waterproof the Domus and then backfill it with soil.
Regards, Walter
