Definitely, an overnight even better.

Two recommendations: visit the following link for an outstanding website for Cesky Krumlov: http://www.ckrumlov.cz/uk/atlas/i_cmm.htm

Second, catch the movie "The Illusionist" still in theaters. It was filmed in Prague and Cesky Krumlov; the shots of the streets and Castle Tower in Cesky are breathtaking!

Cesky Krumlov is absolutely not to be missed, however I am not sure you will have enough time to see it properly. It is a 3-hour drive through georgeous countryside just to get there (and another 3+ hours back). To do this in just one day would really be pushing it, but if that is all the time you have, just do it and don't miss the chance. One advantage is that it is quite small and can be explored very easily on foot.

Were are you travelling from. If it the UK and it is your first time I would that it would be pushing it to squeeze this in on a 4 day trip. You can get flights cheap enough to come back and maybe do it some other time. If however your tarvelling further a field and the chance of you making it back that way again are slim. You may want to try but it means you will not have enough time to do everything in Prague. You just need to list what is are your " must not miss" things you really want to do and see in Prague. Then work out if you took a day out for this what would you not beable to do. After looking at some internet sites to get some picture and a guide to both places you may decide it will be worth it or not. Before anyone says it I know it is a beatiful place but to do all of Prague and a day here in 4 days will be a tight squeeze.

I did a day trip to Cesky Krumlov and enjoyed it very much. It wasn't pushing it, I just took a tour group, so could enjoy the drive and scenery (which I don't recall as being that special). I don't know about whether I saw it "properly", but there isn't that much to see there as it's a small town. I especially viewed the castle (we had a personal, special tour), of course, which is really the prime thing to see. A lot of the town is just souvenir shops, it's very small. The church there is well-worth viewing, also.

I think it's a good break to see some other parts of the Czech Republic. One of those bus tour groups (which are pretty cheap in price) makes it very easy and no stress. I don't think the drive was a full 3 hrs, but maybe 2.5. So, leave at 9, get there at 11:30; leave at 4:30, get back at 7 pm. That's not such a problem for me, and that's about what the schedule was.
