Can't say I've exactly been there, but I did do a drive-through on my way out of Prague a few years ago. It looked like an illustration out of a storybook, with a castle and a fanciful church, and some lovely old buildings. I would say that it's definitely worth a day trip from Prague if you are there, or worth stopping on your way through. I wish I had had more time to check it out. Good luck.

We spent a day in Kutna Hora as part of a conference excursion from Prague. The church is interesting. The most memorable part was the visit to the silver mine.It was very wet, you had to bend almost in half to get through the passages and I repeatedly wondered if we were going to get out alive. They outfit you in miner's hats and cloaks. You sure need the hat. At each subsequent meeting of the society the Kutna Hora outing is rehashed. I must admit I would have rather spent the day in Prague...

Yes. We stopped in Kutna Hora and saw the church. Also had a meal for two for what I recall as $7.50 US total includin a full liter of wine. It's the countryside that's cheap in Czech Republic, not Prague. Church is lovely and worth a stop if you're on your way to something else in the countryside. Not sure I'd sacrifice an entire day or half day to do it as a tour from Prague, though. Did not go to the bone church that's written up in guidebooks everywhere so I can't speak to that.

We took an organized mini-bus tour from Prague one day. We wandered through the big old church, around town and of course, to the church full of bones. That was the only reason we went and we thought it was really cool. There are strings of skulls criss-crossing the ceiling, coats of arms made from bones, pyramids of bones and best of all, a chandelier made from at least one of every bone in the body.

I went there on a day trip from Prague several years ago. Agree that the mine, a couple of churches and just the general atmosphere were highlights. It was easy to get to - we took a bus there and a train back to Pargue. No need to go on an organized tour.

We went there as a daytrip also, I think we took the bus. I agree that it had an interesting church but that's about all.

In fact, we arrived at the church about 10 min before it closed for lunch and were lucky that they let us in. It was closed for about 2 hours! In fact, almost everything in the town closes up for lunch . . . we were a little disappointed in KH and wished we had gone someplace else instead.

Hi
We visited Kutna Hora a couple of years ago. We had been to Prague several years ago and while it is a beautiful old city it was very touristy. Kutna Hora was an experience. We rented a car and drove throughout Czech Rep. Kutna Hora had an interesting history and the tour of the old silver mine was very good. It all depends what your interests are, we visited the ossuary in Sedlac, which is on the outskirt of Kutna Hora and enjoyed it. It has been on tv a couple of times. Cesky Krumlov was probably our favorite in the Country. It is an old and very interesting city. Whatever you decide, just enjoy it.

I've been there, guess you noticed, and enjoyed it very much. I didn't even go to the silver mine or bone church, but there is a lot to see in that town that is quite worthwhile. St Barbara's Cathedral is magnificent, as well as the treasury/mint and Italian Court. These were the prime points of interests. This is a very important city historically, and there are some beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture in town, as well as Baroque. It's also a pleasant little town to walk around, not really ugly with modern buildings like some places.

I think some of these experiences point out why sometimes it can be better to have a guided tour than do-it-yourself. I had a good tour with Prague Sightseeing with a good itinerary, excellent guide, and therefore we did not miss things due to the wrong hours, and saw things with special tours that you wouldn't know about, I guess, if you didn't have a good guidebook. The guide also took us on mini architectural walking tours. The Italian Court and Mint are two of the main things there to see, not just the church. There are some other important architectural buildings we saw also, such as the Jesuits College and Stone HOuse (?). It was an important medieval town and became a royal city--it is one of those UNESCO Heritage Sites. Here is one site that is pretty good in describing it (their own site I can't get to work). It says it is the second most important city in Czech history, after Prague.

I've visited Kutna Hora a few months ago, when we stayed in Prague. I really love this small Czech city! It's really great when you come from the busy Prague region to this peaceful little city. And it surely is cheap there! I bought a large icecream and it only costed me 40 cents!
We went there by train: you have to walk half an hour before you reach the city centre but it's definitely worth it!.
