We have 3 nights in Prague and are splurging on this trip. Has anyone stayed at the Four Seasons?
Or can anyone please recommend a gorgeous luxury boutique hotel, rather than a chain, in the Old Town, near the Charles Bridge etc, which I understand is the area to be.

Hope this isn't too late to help you; but just returned from Prague and spent several nights at the Four Seasons. It was very nice with a perfect location for walking to the main sights. The castle is a hike; but you can also cross the bridge and take a tram if needed. The only problem I had with the Four Seasons was the restaurant. The food was okay; but extremely over-priced. Due to time restrictions, we had breakfast there every morning. There's nothing like a $50.00 (US) bowl of cereal!! I would recommend finding a nearby restaurant for breakfast. Otherwise, it was a very good hotel with excellent service.

Unfortunately, for some, the Savoy, which has one of the best restaurants in the city IMO is closer to the castle than the Charles Bridge, etc...much quieter.

Iron Gate is highly recommended. Carlos V is another top hotel. It is not near the Charles Bridge, however. The Intercontinental, a big glass box of a hotel, is right on Pariska St., the Via Condotti of Prague, and right on the Vlatava.

There aren't hardly any "luxury" hotels in Prague, and probably only one right near the bridge (Four Seasons), so that's it. It isn't really the place to be, it's kind of tacky right around there. It depends how near you want to be, I guess.

I splurged (for me) and stayed at the Hotel Paris near Powder Gate which I thought was really nice, but I know if you'd call it luxury. It is a 5* hotel, though, according to its website. http://www.hotel-pariz.cz It's certainly not too far a walk to the bridge, but I wouldn't describe it as being right near the bridge. The main 5* hotels in Prague are chains, of course. The Palace isn't and is a 5*, but it's not near the bridge.

Really, the bridge thing is going to limit you to the 4 Seasons, I think.

Thanks, I'll check out all these options. Actually, I don't know why I am stuck on the bridge thing... my research so far suggested that was the place to be. I am more than happy to have more suggestions tho.
Also, can anyone recommend great Prague restaurants which are not touristy - good local food please (not fancy places)...thanks

Blue Duck(ling) restaurant is outstanding.

Mandarin Oriental recently opened in Prague. We're scheduled to stay there in July and have heard very good reviews.

We are leaving for Budapest, Vienna and Prague this Thursday. We are staying at the Alchymist. Don't know if you will already be gone when we get back (6/27) but if interested I can let you know.

Also, I have stayed at the Mandarin Oriental elswhere and liked the whole experience better than Four Seasons and the hotel looks great on the web....

My wife and I stayed at the Riverside Hotel. We had a spacious room with a dynamite view of the river and town. Also their breakfast are plentiful and top notch. It is about a 15 minute walk to the St. Charles Bridge. Everything is within walking distance. If want great food; go for Kampa Park and the Square. Kampa Park was excellent and ranks along with our top restaurants in San Francisco. Good Luck!

I stayed at the Alchymist about a month ago and enjoyed it. The location is good, in a quiet area near the US embassy. We are not not 5 star types for the most part, but got a good deal on Luxury link, so went for it. The room and furnishings were quite lavish and the bedtime chocolates were delicious. The Aquarius restuarant for dinner was expensive, but we had a 100 euro voucher as part of our deal. Also as a part of our package, breakfast was included as were transfers. So were 2 massages. The spa, though lovely, was good, but not top notch. The pool looks great in pictures, but is small and not heated - a problem for us in May! Service was very good - small things like going to get an umbrella for us when it looked like rain. We also liked that there weren't a lot of rooms, so it couldn't get too crowded. We found Prague to be crowded, and were weren't even there in peak season. I don't want to think about what it is like in the summer.

Don't know if this is too late but just got back from Prague and stayed at the Alchymist Hotel. Very nice in a not crowded area in a very croweded city and close to both Old Town and Charles Bridge. Just make sure you don't get room 314 - too small with slanted roof. I would definitely stay there again.

We just stayed at the Four Seasons. The rooms were great and so was the service. We thought the location could not be beat. I would stay there again. We had problems with lost luggage and the Concierge took charge in terms of tracking it down.
I did not find the area seedy at all.

Why would you think it would be seedy? I don't think anyone said that.

I did not find the area around the Four Seasons tacky either! In fact, I found it a great location.
