Jack, I think a lot of people take day trips out to either Cesky Krumlov or the spa town of Karlovy Vary. I wanted to go to Cesky Krumlov, which is supposed to be the most beautiful, but that tour was not available on the days that I was available. I went to Karlovy Vary, which was nice, but all of us on that tour wanted to go to the main spa.....which was closed that day. what a bummer!...so check first. Otherwise, the place was very pretty and the hot springs quite interesting.

There are some wonderful evening classical music concerts in churches that are very relaxing. Just sitting at the cafes watching the world go by in the evening in July is wonderful I agree that 5 days is not too long for Prague. There are many bookstores, museums and walking tours that can occupy it. I think walking the
Charles Bridge both early in the morning, when it is almost empty and later in the evening is fascinating because they have such different feels to them.

I think your plan sounds good. It's impossible to see everything, so relax and see what what you want to. You'll have the most fun just wandering around and discovering things.

Visit the castle, stroll the the bridge, relax in the old town square...it's all good.

I would avoid some of the frequently mentioned restaurants that you see listed in a lot of these threads. The ones we tried had decent and good food, but they were very crowded and the service was poor...I suspect victims of their own success. Ask the locals for suggestions. They steered us to some great spots...I tried to find the restaurant names in my credit card files, but I remember now that I paid cash in Prague.

If you'd like to see some photos of Prague, email me and I'll send you a link.

Have fun.
