It depends what you mean by best. I think the best is usually to have your hotel arrange to have a private car and driver there for you. This is a fairly modest cost in Prague, and many hotels do it. Second best, I'd just go out to the transportation area and either get in the Airport Cars, or get in a multi-person shuttle service van if you don't mind waiting a little, possibly. You don't have to reserve those in advance and they have flat rates. You may need to wait a little for them to fill up, and you don't know your order of delivery, but the distance isn't that far and it shouldn't be a big problem. I've done all three of the above. Public transportations isn't that great as there isn't a metro stop there.

Thank you so much Christina. We are going in March and don't know anything about Prague. Any other advice you can give would be welcomed. We are staying at the Diplomat Hotel.

Any particular reason to stay at the Diplomat? It is just a bit out in the boondocks.

There is a bus from the airport that goes directly to the Dejvicka metro station, which is right across the street from the Diplomat Hotel. Couldn't be easier!! There is also a tram stop there too.

So it's quite easy to get from the Diplomat Hotel to downtown by metro or tram.

Unless you're tied into that hotel for some reason I would go for someplace much closer to the center - where you can walk to most places. You get a much better feel of the flavor of a place - and then you're not always worrying about getting cabs or trams or something back to the hotel after the opera or a concert or a nice dinner downtown.

Prague cabs have had a reputation (at least in the past) as being some of the most corrupt anywhere.

I would opt for hotel-arranged transport or public transport UNLESS you find a cab and get an agreed price in advance.

If you do decide to stay at the Diplomat Hotel, as mentioned earlier, the bus would be the best to get to the Diplomat from the airport. You will definitely need a multi day transporation pass, which you can get at the airport. This pass is good for buses, trams and the metro. They have a booth at the airport. They speak english and can help you out with the bus. If you need to use a taxi while in Prague, the AAA taxis are the best.
