Positano or Capri

I need an answer ASAP. Should I spend 3 nights in Positano or 3 nights in Capri? Which is more upscale and exotic?

both would be wonderful.
When are you going and what is the rest of your itinerary?
What do you like to do/see?

Ira and Steviegene,

Thank you for the prompt response. I'll be in Italy during the beginning of October. I will be in Forence for a few days taking a class and then wanted to take a brief trip to Amalfi area. For hotels, we have a choice between La Scalinatella in Capri and Le Sirenuse in Positano. I will be with my mother--we love to shop, eat, drink and relax. I know I shouldn't say it, but she's scared of heights!

Again, they both would be wonderful.
In my opinion, Capri is more exotic and upscale. Capri is more romantic in my opinion. However, I dont know if you are looking for that kind of atmosphere.
You will deal with heights in both areas.
There is good eating and shopping in both areas.

With 3 nights, I might chose Positano...simply because it offers more options for things to do. Day trips to Capri, Amalfi, Sorrento, Ravello or even Pompeii. It is more difficult to take day trips from Capri.

Capri may be slightly more upscale. Neither is at all exotic (unless you're comparing it with the local mall). They are typical Italian beach resosts - with all the pluses and minuses.

I would do Capri because it's much less crowded in the evenng when most tourists have returned to the mainland.

Can't go wrong with either. I'd choose Le Sirenuse which is considered one of the great hotels of the world.
