Paris Trains and Metro

Hi,

My wife and I will be taking the train from Brive to Paris on October 2, after 4 days in Arles, two weeks in a "gite" in Cabrières d'Avignon, Provence and a week in Sarlat.

We need to get to the "ECOLE MILITAIRE" metro station, which is closest to our hotel, and I am seeking assistance in determining which of the train stations in Paris, should be our destination in order to get to "ECOLE MILITAIRE"?

Merci a l'avance pour l'aide!

Robert

I think you arrive from Brive into Gare d'Austerlitz. So you'd catch the end of the line No. 10 and change to the #8 at La Motte Picquet Grenelle for one stop to Ecole Militaire.

You don't have any choice as to which train station your train will end up in in Paris. You'll come into the Gare d'Austerlitz. Follow the directions above.

StCirq -- ha ha I thought it was a trick question, so I answered it the way I did, waiting for someone like you to confirm there was no other way in!

Hi Surfergirl and StCirq,

It certainly wasn't a trick question, just some confusion as I surfed the sncf website and factored that info into what the receptionist at the hotel wrote when I asked which train station was closest.

This is our first trip to Paris (part of a 40th wedding anniversary trip to France). I'm a bit cautious now with respect to train travel. Quick anecdote, two years ago, at the train station in Rome, Italy, I sought information about the train to Munich which was departing about 30 minutes after our arrival. The ticket agent kept saying and directing me to the train/track for Monaco, and I surely didn't want to go west to the principality of Monaco, as we were flying out of Munich. At any rate, I finally figured out which train I needed. It wasn't until later, back in Munich, that I learned that Monaco was Munich in Italian.

No trick question...just seeking assurance, and appreciating the information very much.

Happy travels,
Robert

If you find your schedule on the SNCF website, it shows you exactly which train station a train will arrive at. If there are any choices possible (and sometimes a few routes have two possibilities, usually one is a TGV and one a train with lots of stops), it will show both of them, also.

With luggage , from Gare de A, I'd skip the metro and take a cab. It won't be that expensive and you won't have to face long flights of stairs at metro stations
