Paris hotels in the Marais area

Have any of you stayed in this area?..your comments?..I found a nice hotel in the area but my husband is concerned about the location.

Hi lois,

No need to be coy. You are among friends.

What's the name of the hotel?

The Marais is a good-sized area and so it would be good to have a little better fix on the address or even the property. I often stay in that area and I can assure you that it certainly has some good choices and locations.

For many, the area is the place they prefer to stay.

It would be very helpful if we knew what your husband's concerns are about this particular area.

When I first looked at the hotel I thought it was less than it was...and with the dollar falling..well...

Anyway hubby wants to make sure we are near restaurants (good ones), and close to the metro and the railway so when we take a train to Paris he knows how close it is to the hotel.

Comments on area?..restaurants?.. other hotels?

The "Marais" is a section WITHIN Paris...a city in which you are never very far from at least one Metro station.

We have stayed in the Marais twice and probably will again. There are lots of restaurants of all types. As has been said one is never far from a Metro stop in Paris. The number 1 line takes you to the Louvre directly.

Hi,

We came back from Paris recently (Thanksgiving) and stayed in the Marais area, in Hotel Sansonnet. It's a fairly basic 2* hotel, but is clean, with ensuite bathrooms, reasonably sized room and bathroom and the location can not be beat - it's around the corner from Hotel de Ville. Trip Advisor website has some reviews for this property. A double room was about 80 euro.

We love Le Marais, it's so full of history and athmosphere and is one of the liveliest areas of Paris, especially on Sunday. We really enjoyed being so close to Notre Dame, Conciergerie, Sainte Chapelle, Ile St Louis, Place des Vosges, Musee Carnavalet and other great hotel particuliers, not to mention quite a few good and inexpensive restaurants.

Check out www.eurocheapo.com for other suggestions for inexpensive hotels in Paris.
