paris..hotel verneuil...room selection?
Hi
Anyone stayed at the Hotel Verneuil recently? Can anyone suggest a particular room...we will be staying in std. dbl. Don't want to spend the extra $$$ for upgrade.
Any help, from anyone who has stayed there recently, would be much appreciated.
Thanks

We have stayed at the Hotel Verneuil three times in three different rooms. (I am Tries to Pak Lites' Mom) The hotel is on a quiet street, so the rooms on the front are not too noisy. The rooms are very small, but very attractively decorated and the space is well planned. The bathrooms are good sized and immaculately clean. I would avoid the rooms to the side of the elevator as they are not as pleasant. The last time we stayed there we had a delightful room on the top floor that had twin beds pushed together. There is no view, but the room was light and airy. We love the hotel. The location is great, you can walk to the Lourve and D'Orsay Museums and, if you are walkers like us, to Notre Dame and Napolean's Tomb and the adjacent Army museum. The Verneuil is close to the antiques district and there are lots of good restaurants in the area. There is a little grocery store on the next corner where we used to pick up a bottle of wine to have after a long day of walking and sightseeing. The staff of the hotel are especially helpful and the breakfast is good. We have stayed at several other hotels in Paris, but this is our favorite.

I stayed there twice, most recently was Jan. 1st for 3 nights. Click on my name and check for the hotel's name in the title posts.
I have to advise you that standard doubles are very very small rooms. I stayed in one of these rooms last year. The bed takes up the whole room pretty much. I stayed there last year for two nights only, but honestly I didn't like the claustrophobic feeling.
I noticed you said that you don't want to upgrade to a deluxe double. I think it would be wise if you can think about doing that at the Verneuil.
Generally any room number ending in '02' is considered a deluxe double. I stayed in #302 in January. I booked my relative next to my std. double (rm. 401) into a deluxe double same time. The staff assigned her the room next to mine, #402. That room was a very good size-not huge but there was good room to walk around-with a nice canopied bed (as in all deluxe double rooms), and ginger jar in a lit cabinet plus a desk, no bidet. Ironically the std. double had a bidet.
Talked to Joseph, the night manager, and he advised that the staff's favorite rooms are #402 and #502 which is on their top floor with two large windows which bring in needed light in dark winter months.
Be aware there is a short flight of carpeted but uneven (due to age) stone stairs to the elevator. It's not on the ground floor. No one helps with luggage.

We have stayed at the Verneuil on occasion and you have chosen an excellent hotel on a splendid street! We recently began to rent an aparment on the same street and now prefer to go that route we found this flat on vrbo.com and discovered that the owners can be reached at www.wewillalwayshaveparis.net Whilst staying at an apartment may be initially more expensive, one has more room and one certainly saves on restaurant bills. Were I unable to book into this flat, I would certainly return to the Verneuil!

Hi Brenda,
I just wanted to add that I think room selection at the Verneuil can depend largely on the time of year you are going. My sister and I stayed in the top floor room with the two twin beds last summer and despite the fact that the hotel is listed as being air conditioned, that top room was not. We were in Paris during an unusually hot time and it was, at times, unbearable up there. They were not able to move us, but gave us a semi-functioning fan. I say semi-functioning because it was on a timer and would have to be turned back on in the middle of the night. That being said, the hotel was acceptable and my parents were in a room on a lower floor with great AC
I would just make sure that if you are there in the summer, you request anything other than the top floor.

It is a small hotel, if that is where you want to stay, book your room as soon as possible. I don't remember what their cancellation policy is, I would ask when you make your reservation. Some hotels have a non refundable deposit.

Hi Brenda,I think you got alot of detailed info. In May it should not be hot so if I were you I'd book the room.
As to upgrading I doubt they do it at the Verneuil. But the staff answers all emails so I suggest you ask them and also let them know your other concerns. For sure the standard double room will be very tiny so be prepared for that.
