My husband and I tried to get a reservation at Hotel des Grandes Ecoles for Oct 22-Oct 28 and were told they only had a room available in the main building. We were advised in this forum to get a room in the buidling across the courtyard from the building because the rooms are much larger. We would like a nice sized quiet room with a shower and a queen sized bed. What should we do now? Any other suggestions?

Seriously, maybe you should investigate other hotels. Not sure how many moderately priced hotels have queen beds.

I think it is rare for hotels in that price range to have queen-sized beds. That's a nice hotel that a lot of people like with a good location. If the only reason you don't want it is because someone said you should get a room in another building, that may not be the best decision. Your room in another hotel could be worse where you don't have any information, and I think someone else in that same thread liked their room in the main building.

Now I forget who said the main building wasn't as nice, and that may well be true, I'm not saying they are wrong -- I don't know, but I'd just put this into perspective. If your main concern is the size of the room (and another hotel's room size could be smaller that you'd switch to, you don't know), why don't you just ask them the approximate size of the room? I do that all the time with hotels and most are quite amenable to telling me with no problem. There's no point in switching hotels for that reason unless you know the same information about the alternatives.

The hotels I have recommended for you are some that are frequently recommended on this forum by those who have stayed there, but not by me personally. I am more of a 'budget hotel' person and stay further out in the city (14, 15, 17 arrs.)

If you type the hotel name in the search box, you should get some threads with feedback about these hotels.

FWIW, the Bonaparte does not have a web site.

I've stayed in the main building at HGE. It was fine, really. We had lovely casement windows that opened onto the side (not the central) garden. But the bed was definitely not queen sized, which I don't mind, because my husband and I like to be close when we sleep.

I recommend it because it is a pleasant, well kept hotel in a great location at a good price.

If you look up "Bonaparte" on "search this forum" you will find several threads discussing it.

Hotel Ferrandi has a superior double room for 180Euros

Hotel de Notre Dame has a room for 135Euros

Relais du Louvre has a superior double for 180 Eurors

or I can still take the room in the main building at Hotel des Grandes Ecoles fo $105

I need to make a decision soon. Most importantly I want a nice location. We would like to be able to walk to bakerys, cafes, jazz clubs etc. and easy metro access, close to major sights. Also we need at least a queen sized bed and a quiet room. I want to make sure I can sleep well so I won't be tired and crabby.

I also like Hotel Bonaparte. I don't think you can beat the location for convenience, numerous restaurants, bakeries, shops, and a very authentic French experience. I've been told this is a very upscale area. It's very colorful, and there are many sites very close by. One that should not be missed is St. Sulpice, which is around the corner from the hotel. Victor Hugo was married in this church]. Also, the square in front is where Napoleon had many victory celebrations. Jardin du Luxembourg is a short walk in one direction, and the Seine is the other direction. It brings you out by the Louvre, just across the Pont Neuf. Enjoy your visit!

The Hotel du Lys is my favorite little "budget" hotel; high on charm, low on luxury but does have tv, phone, and the continental breakfast is included in the price, which is 110 euro for double. Charming bldg. which dates from the 17th century; NB: no elevator!

This is your second thread about basically the same subject. You have received lots of replies, all indicating that queen-sized beds are rare in Paris unless you go with 5* or chain hotels. I don't mean to be rude, but it seems that the bed size is your most important objective, and the best way to find out if a hotel has a bed that size is to ask them. Hope you have a great trip!

Try in the Hotel Central Saint Germain, it is closed to the hotel des Grandes Ecoles...and the service is very good...
