Opera Theatre in Prague

Hi All
We've heard we shouldnt miss opera or shows in Prague. Any suggestions? Thinking about Don Giovanni or perhaps Shakespeare (only in Czech)?

Last year they had Open Air Opera at Lichtenstein Palace in Aug but cant find anything on the net this year?
Thanks

I would definitely look at the Prague Post website as a start. www.praguepost.com

Katz: Thought this site might be helpful to you in determining what you might wish to see. We went to the National Theater in May to see The Bartered Bride and loved it. Went to Cafe Salvia afterwards for coffee and pancakes. I highly recommend the combination.

I ordered our tickets online and we picked them up at the box office the day of the performance. All worked fine.

We loved Prague and look forward to returning.

I don't know what type of performance you like, but I always like to go to performances that are in some way special or unique to the locale. For Prague opera, that would be Czech composers, which they do among the best in the world (ie, Dvorak), or Don Giovanni due to the historical significance (it was written in Prague and premiered at the Estates Theater). I personally would have no interest in seeing Shakespeare in Czech because it is English, part of the enjoyment of Shakespeare to me is the language, and I can see it elsewhere with British companies. If this appeals to you, though, I am sure it would be a competent performance as there is generally good theatre in Prague. I would also go to a venue that is special for that experience (State Opera, Estates Theater, National Theatre, Municipal HOuse or the Rudolfinum).

They always have various tourist opera type performances which have always sounded a cut above some other cities. "Opera Gala" is the name of one and it is at Kaiserstein Palace. The performances have looked very good when I viewed their listings. THis used to be the Stone Bell series.

It could be a problem that you want something in August. August is a terrible performing arts season almost everywhere, so your choices may be limited.

I'd just browse the various ticket agency and theatre web sites and see what is going on. www.ticketpro.cz has a comprehensive listing of all kinds of performances. Here is one site that lists all opera houses and National Theatre
http://www.opera-rkm.cz/operagala/

Bohemia Ticket International also has a web site, as well as the National Theatre itself.

giovanna---i intend to go to a performance at the end of november, but have not booked as yet because i am unsure of the fees that will be added to the ticket price....the ticket is 36 euro, but the site says there is a 9 euro delivery fee, plus, plus which is added to every ticket and that tickets must be delivered to your hotel???

what was you price experience and i note that you picked up your tickets...?? thanks

rhk...: We paid 1800CZK (about $60.00) for our tickets (that's for both tickets). They had to be picked up at the box office no later than 4:00 pm the day of the performance. We paid for them when we picked them up.

I've checked my reservation form (which was faxed to us) and I don't find a "handling charge." If there was one it was incorporated into the ticket price. Incidentally, we had good seats center in the 1st balcony.
