Munich Hotel picks

In process of planning our trip next year. We will be arriving in Munich about the middle of Octoberfest.

I have been searching for a hotel. I think I have narrowed it down to three. The Platzl, the Anna Hotel or the Hotel Uhland.

Can anyone chime in on my choices.

Never stayed at the first 2, but I have stayed at Hotel Uhland twice and loved it! It is also very close to theOktoberfest grounds so it will be very convenient for you.

The only "advantage" to the Platzl might be its location almost in the middle of the Marienplatz. With the great public transport system in Munich this may not be a big factor. I once thought of staying there in the Summer until I found out it isn't air conditioned throughout; in September/October this is really a non-issue based on my personal experiences.

Congratulations on your decision to plan a year in advance for Oktoberfest hotels since it saves a lot of bother and frustration later.

Hopefully Ira, who has stayed at the Uhland can give you some details.

We are booked at the Hotel Uhland for our trip in May 2006, but I haven't visited Munich before and so can't comment.

However, I put a fair amount of stock in the user ratings on TripAdvisor, where Hotel Uhland is the clear winner among the three you listed. Out of 302 hotels rated, TripAdvisor rankings

Hotel Uhland - #3: - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g1...ia-Hotels.html

Hotel Platzl - #32: - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...h_Bavaria.html

Hotel Anna - #197: - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...h_Bavaria.html

I'll add my voice to the recommendation of the Uhland because it is a great hotel, it will be cheaper than the Platzl (I don't know the Anna), and it is very close to the Oktoberfest grounds. When you book the Uhland ask them about their "business class rooms" Some are nicer than others.

We liked the Platzl very much--excellent location, good-sized rooms, abundant breakfast.

We also loved the Hotel Uhland's family room in June 2004. They will book up very far in advance for Oktoberfest, though, so reserve now if you're interested. It's a lovely hotel.
