Limerick to Dublin on bus or train. Is this a misprint?

I'm planning to travel from Limerick to Dublin on public transport in September. The travel guide I'm reading says that the bus takes 1hr 15min and the train takes 2hrs 30min. Is this correct? Is the bus faster than the train, or is this a misprint in the book. Some local knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

There's no way BusEireann can make it between those cities in 1+15. Try 4hr, 15min for the bus. It has taken me 6hrs in stop-&-go traffic on a BusEireann. Train is faster but runs less often and costs more. Limerick Bus & Rail Station (co-located) is on Parnell Street.

I wonder which travel guide Raclou99 is using.
The actual schedules are on www.irishrail.ie and www.buseireann.ie.

You can download and print the actual timetable for the #12 bus service Limerick-Dublin here:

I believe that you may have to change trains - when I was researching it last year, there's not a direct train between Dublin and Limerick. Either way, 2.5 hours is a good deal between those cities.

There are through trains between Dublin and Limerick, and they ran last year, and the year before.
They run about every two hours and there are other connections involving a change at Limerick Junction (a desolate station 36 km from Limerick).
You can see schedules on www.irishrail.ie.

There are 6 direct trains per (week)day from Limerick to Dublin. The other connections require a transfer at Limerick Junction.

Train costs €27 - compare with €9 for the bus.

Thanks everyone. I didn't think that could be right! Not unless you have some very fast buses in Ireland!
