joining a choir in vienna

my daughter will be doing grad work in vienna--in high school & college she always sang in the choir and would like to continue to do so. does anyone know of any community or church choirs that might be open to her joining them for a year?

Sorry, no specific recommendations but a bit of encouragement. Church attendance in Europe is very low (to the point Africa and the U.S. are actually sending missionaries to Europe... how ironic) so I'd guess church choirs would be overjoyed to have your daughter.

Vienna has numerous churches offering services in english.
I assume that they would welcome choir members.
Perhaps a good place to start would be the Grad School where she is enrolled or the American Womens Association of Vienna. Local Phone 320 1495
They have good lists of many items for those english speakers residing in Vienna.
The Womens Club also publishes a book " Living In Vienna " a great guide for newcomers that will reside here.

thanks for the information although she is fluent in german and would more than likely be looking for something where she can sing in that language. she just didnt know how to get started looking for church or local choirs.

No different than anywhere else really. Just show up and introduce yourself to the director following the church service.

A good place to start would be on the internet, searching for the domination(s) that would be a good fit for your daughter.

In a short check, for example, I learned that not only are there United Methodist congregations in Austria with a web presence, there is one in Vienna that conducts services in English.
