How long does it take by train to get from Italy to Paris? is it worth the time?

1) about 11 hrs from Milan, 15 from Rome.

2) not to me

There is a night train from Rome to Paris - if you have several days to spend in Paris then maybe but it would probably be better to just "do" Paris and France "next time" as there is NO LACK of things to do in Italy.

I have traveled by train in 1997 from Rome to Paris, train departing from Rome aroun 7 pm and arriving in Paris at 9 or 10 am the following morning. I traveled in the 6 berth-compartment, with other 5 people, and I swore not to do that again not only because you never know what kind of people you get to travel with (and I traveled with a boor woman that started to eat ANCHOVIES and bread...yuk!!!! ) but also because in the compartment it was cold and noisy, who was couching all the time, who was going to the toilet 2 or 3 times during the night, and then a lady that got off the train at 4 am in the morning waking us up...a mess. So for my next trip to Paris I chose the plane and I got great fares with Corsair departing from Ciampino and arrivig in Orly. Now Corsair departs from Fiumicino. ALso consider Saudia or Kuwait Airlines for convenient fares even though Corsair has good fares too (the only negative thing about Corsair is that it should depart from Rome in the evening around 8 pm and arrives in Paris around 11 pm and departs in the early morning, so you will lose 2 days in Paris). I also vote NO for the train, unless you want to choose the wagon lits (T2-T3 or single) which in my opinion are much better.

We just flew from Milan to Paris in 1 hour for about 20 US $ each on EasyJet. That's the way to do it!

You can fly to Paris from a number of Italian airports (Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Bologna...) for about the same cost of the train and a lot less aggravation. Check flight schedules.

The train makes no sense IMO unless you want to spend some time in Switzerland along the way.

The following routes are flown by low-cost carriers and will cost you less than the train if you book early enough:

Paris Orly to Bari (Volareweb)

Paris Orly to Milan Malpensa (Volareweb)
Paris Orly to Rome Fiumicino (Volareweb, route starts Oct. 26)
Paris Orly to Venice (Volareweb)

In addition, Ryanair flies from "Paris" Beauvais to Bergamo . But Beauvais is VERY far out from Paris, so much less convenient.

Just went from Venice to Paris and back by train (12h30min), and it is NOT worth it! I was with 10 friends, and there were 5 of us in one compartment plus a stranger with smelly feet, not too pleasant. That's one of the things I dread about night trains...
The berth wasn't all too comfortable either, and the toilets quite dirty.

Go by plane by all means, much easier & quicker

Andre answered the Easyjet airport question. We were glad to be using Linate and Orly, as each is closer to the city, and it was one less time we had to deal with the dreaded CDG!

I flew from Paris (Beauvais) to Milan (Bergamo) on RyanAir this summer and it was a deal. I think we paid $30 per person. both airports are inconvenient but not impossible and certainly cheaper and faster than the train.
