Question about train travel from Paris to Italy
Please be nice and no bashing if you think this question has already been answered somewhere or if you think its stupid. It is an honest question. I just ofund what I thought was an amazing deal on plane fare roundtrip on AirFrance from Chicago to Paris for 263 per person. My husband and I have only been to Italy and would like to see Paris for a couple of days, then go back to Italy. My question is this: Would it be terribly expensive to fly in and out of Paris and then take a train to Italy. (Southern Italy...Naples, Capri area in particular) Also I am wondering if anyone knows the approx time it would take on a train from Paris to Rome or Naples. Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Hi rf,
Check http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
for train schedules throughout Europe.
Check www.sncf.com for tickets from paris to Italy.
Check www.whichbudget.com for discount airfare.
I urge you to spend at least a week in Paris.

Day train from Paris to Rome takes about 12 1/2 hours (changing in Milan as I recall). The night service from Paris (no changes required) to Rome takes about 14 hours. You could also fly from Paris to Milan on easyjet www.easyjet.com/en

The reply from "imqueen2u" is nonsense. You can check how long the train journeys really take on www.bahn.de. The overnight train to Roma is probably the best train option if you're heading for Napoli.

Rf - The budget airline EasyJet fly Paris (Orly) - Naples.

Hope this helps ...

P.S. Paris-Naples by train would be at least 14 hours.
