Is a week too long in Prague?
Hi everybody,
Do you guys consider that a week in Prague is too long? Reading my bookguide, I see that it's a rather small city, but there seem to be lots of day trip options. I'm not interested in museums, but in religious sites and strolling. While the Czech Republic seems interesting enough to include other parts of it in my trip, I'm just interested in Prague and day trips.
Thanks for your advice.

Prague is not so much about museums as other cities, but if you keep moving, after three days you may indeed have seen what there is for your interests. An overnight stay in Cesky Krumlov, and daytrips to Plzn, Karlovy Vary, Karlstejn Castle, Kutna Hora might round out your time nicely.

I spent two days in Prague and it was so nowhere near enough time. Consider also that Prague is a crowded city, I'll have to say, perfect for strolling, but you need to take the pace a couple of notches down, from say Paris sightseeing. If you day trip to Cesky Krumlov and consider a couple of days in Vienna, I think you got yourself a perfect European week!

I have been visiting Prague for over 15 years now and still find plenty to see and do.A week would be ideal id as DalaiLlama suggestd and you included a couple of day trips.I have visited Kutna Hora twice and it is a lovely small town only an hour away from Prague by train, plenty there for a day trip.
Plzen i have vsited 3 times,it is a more Industrial town having the huge Plsner Urquell brewery which is well worth a visit as is the brewing museum in the town.only 90 minutes from Prague by train.karlstejn castle is an easy half day trip about 30 miles from the city but if the weather is nice there are some marked walking trails in the area, also plenty of cafes and resturants for a meal and a drink.
When I am in Prague I always try to take in a trip to the Opera or a classical music concert, there are also folk evenings to go to and some bery good resturants.I also indulge in any football games that may be on or any other spoting activities that may be available.
yes plenty to do for a week.

We visited Prague last Spring, as part of a longer trip that also included the Czech countryside, Slovakia and Hungary.
4 nights and 3 full days in Prague was good for us - we didn't see everything we wanted to see, but we did see most of it, as well as had lots of time for strolling about and cafe-sitting.
Rather than day trips from Prague - I agree, there are a lot of destinations for day trips, we spent 2 nights in Telc, then two nights in Olomouc. We got to experience the countryside and smaller towns, and visits many castles.

Hey everybody,
I guess I'll leave Prague for some other time with some destination. I'm visiting Barcelona next June for a week and I was looking for another destination to combine it with. Prague does look small and, from what I've read in my book guide, I'd also thought that no more than 4 days were necessary without including day trips.
Thanks for all of your help.

For any large city, these kind of questions are meaningless. It would be too long for some people, and not for others. It is not a small city, don't know where you are getting such erroneous information from, it has over a million population.

Hey again,
Sf, for the moment, I'm only interested in Barcelona in Spain. I'd thought of Madrid, but I wanted to visit Barcelona along with some other city in a different country.
Christina, I'm "getting" that information from my bookguide, which splits the city in four parts (the areas of interest; not the whole city, which, of course, is bigger). As I said, I'm not interested in museums so that cuts off a great deal of time to be spent in a place. Besides, I don't know either where you're getting the "erroneous" idea that those million people live exclusively in the areas of tourist interest. Some of those million people certainly must live in such areas, but the rest, as in any city on the planet, usually live in modern residential suburbs that have nothing to offer culturally speaking.
Thank you guys. All of your opinions have certainly been useful.

Castellanese, how about the south of France? Either Provence or the Cote d'Azur (or both). There are a few recent posts on wonderful trips based in Nice. There are so many wonderful small towns, and I would assume it isn't too hard to get there from Barcelona (?).

In a week you can see the main sights of Prague and do 1 or 2 day trips into the countryside. If you're a real music fan , there are so many offerings (of every type, in all sorts of venues, all of very high quality and at very low prices) that you might want to spend the entire week there.
