How does the seat numbering work on the Eurostar trains in Italy?

I have been trying to pick my own seats to get two window seats opposite each other. The Italian version shows the seats, but when I click on one by the window, an aisle seat turns red instead. I then tried having my seats assigned for me, which came up with seats 71 and 72. How does the numbering work to know the location of the seats?

I can't offer you a good explanation of how the seat numbering works, but I can tell you our experience on the Eurostar train (1st class).

When we were seats 43 and 45, we were located next to each other. I had made my reservation online, and the computer led us to believe that we were in window seats opposite each other...but that was not the case.

On our next leg, we bought tickets at a train station from a teller. We were assigned consecutive seats (I think it was 44 and 45, but I could be wrong), and we were across from each other on the aisle (each seated next to someone who had the window).

I neglected to mention that I will be buying second class tickets - only going from Rome to Florence and most of the posts indicate that there is no need to spend the extra money to buy first class for this trip.

Hi R,

>The Italian version shows the seats, but when I click on one by the window, an aisle seat turns red instead.<

All of the window seats on that train are taken.

Well, perhaps if you were willing to ride IN First Class this one time despite what some people here say then you could get First Class seats!

I just tried first class and that didn't give me two window seats either. First I clicked on the two window seats on the right side and the two aisles turned red. I started over and clicked on one window seat on the left side and one of the right side windows turned red, so I tried the other window on the right side and no seat turned red. When I tried another I got the message in Italian that said something like I had exceeded the number of seats.

Hi richard,

On our last trip we were booked in aisle seats next to each other.

A group of four were booked in the other 3 seats on one side and the single opposite me.

We arranged to exchange seats.

Perhaps you will be able to do that.
