Italian Train Seat Number System
Maybe someone can help me with the seat numbers on the ES* trains in Italy. It looks like there is a "row" number and then a 1-6 after that in 1st class (1-8 in 2nd). Are 1 and 2 facing seats that are alone on one side of the aisle, then 3 and 4 facing on the other side of the aisle, and 5 and 6 facing on the other window, next to 3 and 4? Thanks

Here's how it was explained to me:
ES trains use ETR stock but there are three different types:
ETR 500: seat 61 is opp 62 and 63 is opposite 68 - these are two seats facing two seats (2nd cl) 64 would be across the aisle from 68
Basically, the seats are arranged in groups of 8, with 4 on each side facing each other. First group starts from 11-18, next group 21-28 and so on. There are no "9" or "0" seat. But look carefully at the pattern. 22 and 28 are seated together; and 23 & 28 faces each other. Go figure: w 21 23 a 27 25 w w 22 28 a 24 26 w
ETR460 (older trains)
same seating arrangement
