Hi ladrum,

The Accademia and La Calcina have been reviewed a few times. Do a text search here on the name.

You might consider trying tripadvisor.com as well. I found it to be most helpful.

For *this* May?

Unless they have already told you they have availability, I be very surprised to hear that you're able to get a room at P. Accademia or La Calcina. You might get lucky and hit a cancellation, but I tried them both for mid-May over a month ago, and they were booked.

If you type "Giorgione" or whatever hotel name into the text box at the top of this page, you'll pull up many threads mentioning them.

You need to book such hotels at least 6 monthes ahead. For example, Accademia was booked for this May by last November!

PS Tripadvisor is not be be believed. Many of their posts are placed by hotel owners themselves or represent the views of backpackers who have totally different standards.

Go to Veniceby.com Has lots of pix of the hotels, lots of hotels in various categories and you can check a space so that other hotels in the association with availability for the time you reqest will respond and offer you their rates, etc.

Oh, and I tried to book La Calcina for four nights in October and already received notice that they are fully book for all or some of the time. This place is definitely discovered.

I've stayed at Pensione La Calcina twice and loved it! It's gotten quite popular so check availability ASAP.

Stay at the Hotel Campiello ([email protected]) Perfect location just off the water and perhaps a 2 minute walk along the wharf to St. Mark's Square. Very friendly, rooms are nice, affordable, adn quiet which is rare for Venice. Enjoy!
