Venice and Florence Hotels

We are planning our first trip to Italy in late May of this year. We have booked reservations at Pensione La Calcina in Venice and Residenza Il Villino in Florence. We are getting "cold feet" about our hotel selections after reading about other graeat hotels in both cities. If anyone has stayed in either or both of these hotels, please give us your feedback, positive and negative. Thanks in advance.

do a search here on those names, info will come up. You can also check tripadvisor for user comments.

I have never read a bad comment about La Calcina; what is your concern?

I opened this thread ready to post my suggestion for Venice... Pensione La Calcina.

I've stayed there twice and love the place. Went there because my European friends insisted that's where they send all their visiting friends and relatives. It's a gem.

If you have a particular concern, feel free to post it here. I'll check back and am happy to answer any specific questions.

Loved La Calcina! Wish I were there right now. Hope you were able to book a room with a view. Sumptious breakfast. Why the cold feet?

Thanks for the advise. Checked Trip Advisor and got rave reviews of both hotels. The reasonable rates in comparison with many other hotels casused me a little concern. I feel better now. Thanks to both of you for the reply.

Also, I would like to suggest that you have a frozen Bellini at La Calcina's dock restaurant...they are wonderful.

The only problem I have ever heard about La Calcina is it is so popular lately people can't get reservations even booking months in advance. It is a little peace of heaven in a busy city. Consider yourself lucky!!

Breakfast is wonderful in the tiny quaint dining room or served on the dock when the weather is nice. Here's a secret some people don't realize: there is a private rooftop deck with a stunning view that you can reserve at the front desk.

I am also looking at La Calcina for 3 nights in early October by myself. Can someone tell me how easy (or difficult) it is to get back and forth to San Marco Square...and if it is safe to do that alone at night. Thank you very much.
