Congratulations! We stayed in Rome for part of our honeymoon in September last year - in the Albergo del Senato. It wasn't a fancy hotel, but that wasn't what we wanted, and it sounds like it's not what you're looking for either. The view out over the Pantheon and the Piazza della Rotonda (we had a room looking right onto the Pantheon) really made it special. There's also a lovely terrace on the roof where you can have a drink on a fine evening while looking out over Rome.

The Inn at the Spanish Steps looked lovely and we thought about staying there, but we decided we just couldn't afford it, unfortunately. The Albergo del Senato is much more reasonably priced and I think the location is more convenient for all the sights, too.

Thanks for the advice.Just out of courosity, was the decor like a "Motel 6" or more like a "Hampton inn". In other words based on the pictures on the web I cannot tell if I should keep looking or if the rooms are actually neat and clean enough for a honeymoon. (assuming we will be spending allot of time in the room.)I am not looking for the Ritz but I do'nt want to worry about roaches.. Any advice would be appreciated... Stoli

I'm afraid I don't know Motel 6 or Hampton Inns, being British. But, I'm guessing we're not talking Motel 6 here, because that sounds pretty low end of the market. I'm also guessing you're still asking about the del Senato? The rooms were not lush or luxurious but very clean and comfortably furnished. I certainly thought it was up to honeymoon standard! And if you get bored of the room, just look out the window - the view is stunning

Well threw much deliberation and discussion Jen and I have decided to rent a car and head out in search of a bed and Breakfast in Todi. I am really looking forward to it, because with our tour we will have already had 2 days in Rome and I think the country side might be a little more ROMANTIC..Wish us luck and thanks allot for all of the advice. I think in the future we will definately return to Rome and spend a full week there...Stoli

Stoliiiiiii....you're from the Seattle board on theknot.com, aren't you??? I recognize your name from there. We got married back in October, but are just now planning our honeymoon to Italy for this April. I'm here getting travel tips too...nice to see a 'familiar name'! Best of luck,
Shannon in San Francisco

We stayed at the Albergo del Senato last November on the top floor smack in the middle. The room was very small, but very romantic, clean and cozy with a drop dead view of the Pantheon and the rooftops of the heart of Rome. There was a small walk-out balcony with some well cared-for potted standards(small trees). We particularly enjoyed sunrise, sunset and late at night. Although central, it was actually very quiet there at night and early morning...magical! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and courteous. I gave them a list of all my preferred restaurants and they made all the reservations. It was easy to walk to all the major sights. Hope you have a nice honeymoon!
