Eastern Riviera Itinerary - Suggestions

Are these groupings okay to do in a day - one grouping per day? 6 days worth below. My homebase is Cannes. We will be there for 13 days. I would like to leave some days with no plans. What do you think? Did I leave anything out?

(1) Villefranch/Beaulieu Sur Mer/St. Jean Cap Ferratt/Cagnes-sur-mer

(2) Eze/La Turbe/ Peillion

(3) St. Paul de Vence/Gourdon/Biot

(4) Monaco

(5) Roquebrune-cap Martin/Menton/Ventimiglia

(6) Antibes/Vallaruis/Mougin/St. Tropez
I haven't been to ALL of these towns so I can't comment on every grouping, but I would say that Group #6 in particular looks overloaded...it will take you a little while to get to St. Tropez, and it's a little bigger than some of the other coastal towns, so I think it may be a day trip by itself. worth it, though!

I agree with ddd. We did that very vacation, except we were right above the town of Cannes (Le Cannet). Assuming you are going in the summer, it will take a full day in St. Tropez if you want to see both the town and spend some time at the beach (i.e. Tahiti Beach, well worth it!). It takes a while to get to the beaches from the town itself.

You might consider going to St. Tropez for the day, then stopping at Ste. Maxime after the beach for dinner. There are a couple of streets there that are one restaurant after the other, along with outdoor flea market sort of stall shopping.

I think it makes more sense to combine Cagnes sur Mer with St Paul de Vence. On the Menton trip, consider a drive up to St Agnes, which is the highest coastal village in Europe. Nice place for lunch.
Thank you for your responses. Yes, we will be staying in Le Cannet the last week of May and first week of June 2003.
Did you happen to stay at the villa called Matakiterani???
What is in St. Agnes?

I would add the drive of the Corniche de l'Esterel, from Frejus to Cannes - - maybe on some day when you want a "light day".

Not sure that you will find Ventimiglia worth the drive. Unless your goal is simply to send some postcards with Italian stamps on them.

Best wishes,

Rex
What about NICE? IMO Monaco doesn't warrant an entire day. Cagnes sur Mer is good for lunch or dinner but not a must see. Not familiar with every one of these but here's an alternative that doesn't pack the days to exhaustion.

1)Ramatuelle, St. Tropez, Ste -Maxime
2)Antibes, Juan les Pins, Vallauris
3)Mougins, Grasse
4)Biot, (Cagnes sur Mer),St Paul de Vence
5)Gourdon, Gorges du Loup, Vence
6)Nice,Villefranche
7)Cap Ferrat, Beaulieu, Eze
8)Monaco, La Turbie (Peillon- don't know it)Not familiar with your #5's

Keep in mind you might want to do sightseeing for 1/2 days & relax at the beach/pool. Bonne vacances.
Rex:
Is your suggested drive on Corniche de l'Esterel, from Frejus to Cannes N98?

The only reason I put Ventimiglia on was because couple folks mentioned it was a charming little place & you could stop for lunch.

Yes, we plan to check out Nice - old Nice in particular.
Rex

Ventimiglia has a pretty big market (can't remember the day) with some of the lowest prices I had found. Also good place to find a good variety of Lemoncello.

No, another place. It was incredible, with a pool and a pool/guest house. The only problem with it were mosquitos in all the rooms, and some very strange bug in one of the rooms (we moved to another bedroom the 2nd night). They did have heating mosquito repellent coils that I would highly recommend. Remember, no screens on the windows. Other than the bugs, it was a delight.

I would highly recommend that you visit old town in Le Cannet. It's a short trek up from the main drag (there are arrows pointing the way), but the view is incredible, and there are a couple of good restaurants up there where they have a small playground and large mural by a stage. Fabulous 4 cheese pizza, among other more gourmet items. You'll love it!
