This forum has a wealth of information and is so useful, however, sometimes the info available is overwhelming and as you read on you only get more confused.

I would appreciate any help in finalizing the hotels for Positano (3 nights) and Capri (2 nights) this June. We are a couple in our early thirties.

Below are the shortlisted hotels -- all others (although may be nicer) are either outside our budget or fully booked. All selected rooms are sea view (important).

Positano: Miramare, Villa Rosa, Poseidon, Buca di Bacco or Le Agavi.

Capri: Caesar Augustus, Villa Brunella, Punta Tragara or Flora.

I stayed at Buca Di Bacco in August 2003 on my honeymoon. We LOVED it.

We didn't stay in Capri at all, so I can't help you with that.

Buca di Baco has a nice outdoor cafe right on the beach.

We've stayed a few times at the Poseidon, and always hated to leave. It's a very small family-run hotel with excellent service, great views, and, as I've posted many times before, some of the best food we've had in Italy. My only complaint is that the pool is incredibly small, but that wouldn't keep us from another stay at this lovely hotel!

We loved the Villa Rosa in '01, when it truly was a bargain--less than $90 a night. I would guess that it is still less expensive than the hotels with pools, restaurants, etc. The view was spectacular, and the hotel was friendly, charming, and well-appointed. Breakfast, included, was served on our private patio--idyllic!

grandmere, how is the view from Villa Rosa?

ira, is the view nice from Buca di Bacco (being lower than the others - Miramare, Poseidon).

Being lower, the view is not as far over the water, but there are those who like being at beach level and not going up hills to get to the hotel.

And there are those who love escaping the summer crowds in town and on the beach, while enjoying the exquisite views offered by cliffside hotels.

Any feedback for Capri selection?

The hotels you list aren't all in the same price range or situation.

Since it's June Capri will be very, very crowded during the day. I'd definitely suggest something in Anacapri for that reason. The best hotel and the best view in Anacapri is Caesar Augustus. The view seems important to you, so without a doubt I would overwhelmingly suggest Caesar Augustus so long as that's in your price range.

I would check previous posts written by GRINISA. She has stayed a few times at Villa Brunella, and gives good descriptions of the rooms, etc.

We were in Capri last July, but stayed at the Hotel Luna, which is just a five minute walk from the main piazzetta. We had beautiful rooms at the hotel, and loved the service and spectacular pool area as well. However, it seem you're not looking at Luna, so all of the above is probably useless info!

We honeymooned on the A.C. in summer 2002.

In Positano, we stayed at the Poseidon, which we adored. My ONLY complaint was that the pool is rather unimpressive. Otherwise, it was wonderful, especially their outstanding breakfast buffet on the terrace. Our view was great, the staff very accomodating. We had a small room, but that was of no matter to us.

On Capri, I can't use enough superlatives for the Caesar Augustus. It's heaven on earth. Lovely staff, lovely rooms, and an infinity pool with a view so beautiful you want to weep. I would go there again in a heartbeat. It's a short (4-5 minute) walk into Anacapri, but feels like you're totally secluded...You can't make a better choice!
