Positano, Capri or Ravello?
Can you someone tell me where to stay if I have only one choice? Positano, Capri or Ravello? I have heard wonderful things about all three cities. I am looking for a hotel around 200 Euros. Thanks!

Hi,
try Positano it's a very beautiful and romantic small town.
The hotel I will suggest you is Le Sirenuse.
Hoping you need information for next spring because Positano, Capri and Ravello are not that beutiful in this period.
Hope you'll have a great time!!

You will probably be able to find more hotels in your price range in Positano than the other two. The Sirenuse is indeed wonderful, but double rooms start at 400 Euro. Depending on how long you have, you can easily take daytrips to both Ravello and Capri from Positano.

I have only stayed on Capri. If you do choose Capri, I would recommend staying on the Anacapri side -- much better natural scenery, slower pace, and better prices on hotels. (and an easy bus ride into the shopping area of Capri too). My recommendation would be the Hotel Bellavista(http://www.bellavistacapri.com). It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the rooms were nice sized, with many overlooking the Bay of Naples. The staff was incredibly friendly and most spoke excellent English. It was also one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed in.
Hope this helps.

Hi Carrie,
I would say Positano also, but I think it depends on what you are looking for.
Ravello is wonderful, but it is very quiet and, if you aren't renting a car, it is not a great base from which to explore the rest of the Amalfi Coast because it is up in the hills. It also doesn't have as many restaurants to choose from as Positano and Capri.
Positano is beautiful, has good restaurants and is a great location from which to explore the rest of the coast as well as Capri and Ravello.
Capri is an island and as you have heard it is absolutely beautiful. If I just wanted to hang out on the beach and relax, see a few sites and not explore the Amalfi Coast, I would go there. I visited Capri on a day trip and regretted not staying over night.
On the balance, I would suggest staying in Positano but don't miss a day trip to Ravello & Capri. Villa Cimbrone in Ravello is a beautiful mansion with a wonderful garden and the famous Belvedere of Infinity that will take your breath away.
Have a great time.

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. I have done some research and had to increase my daily room rate a bit due to the high prices of rooms during high season. Anyway, I have heard it's worth it! One other question for you travellers...do you think it would be too much to stay in Capri for three days and then in Positano for two if I am heading to the South for the last five days of a fourteen day vacation? Or should I just park myself in one location?

There is a ferry link from Positano to Capri and back when the weather is good. I think you can always get to and from Capri from Sorrento. I think it would be fine, but I am partial to Positano and would stay more days there then Capri, but it just depends on what you want to do. Have a great trip.

In Positano, we stayed next door to Le Sireneuse at a place called L'Ancora, and had a junior suite for 275 euro 18 months ago. Incredible view from the room and they also had private parking - a consideration if driving there. Their sister hotel is Covo dei Saraceni, so they offered dining discounts and pool privileges at that lovely beachfront property during our stay.
Good luck!

If I had 5 days in that area, I would probably split it between Capri and Positano, having been there and wished I'd done that. Although, I agree that I would probably stay 3 in Positano and 2 in Capri only because there is so much more to do from Positano than Capri. But, it does depend on what you are looking for. Capri is beautiful and you could certainly spend 3 nights there.
I don't know what type of lodging you are looking for, but we stayed at La Fenice in Positano in 2002 for the amazing price of 100E with a sea view, breakfast & bath. It is not a 4 star by any means, but I enjoyed it. You can see my review as well as others on this site in the hotels section.
Ciao.
