Has anyone stayed at Hotel Wildner or Locanda Leon Bianco in Venice?

Has anyone stayed at Hotel Wildner or Locanda Leon Bianco in Venice? I have narrowed it down to these two hotels but I have not heard anything at all about Hotel Wildner. Any information you have would be wonderful.

Thanks,
Andrea

I stayed in Hotel Wildner about three or four years ago. It's nothing fancy at all, but our room looked out over the Grand Canal. The hotel is one or two doors down from Danielle, at a fraction of the price. I was there in late November, and there was hardly anyone in the hotel. As I said, unless they have remodeled, it is not fancy, but it was clean.

Thanks for the reply. You are the first person I have heard of that has stayed there. Has anyone else?

We stayed at the Locando Leon Bianco just off the Ca’ d’Oro stop in Cannaregio. The small family-run hotel was exactly what we needed (except for the 4 flights of stairs w/ bags). Andrea (at the front desk) was not only charming and spoke excellent English, he was born in Venice and was able to give us the history on anything we asked about. The hotel only has 6 rooms. We had a room with a view of the Grand Canal. A large room with all the amenities and filled with antiques. This was a wonderful, clean, no-frills hotel filled with charm. The breakfast was served in the room. The room was about $160.00 for 3 people w/ Grand Canal view. I highly recommend this hotel and can’t wait to go back. For more oppinions, please do a search on this forum.

Hi Andrea...Based on what I read on his forum I chose to stay at the Leon Bianco for my upcoming trip in March. They have responded very quickly to my e-mails. If you are not booking yet, and want me to e-mail you when we get back, I'll be happy to do so.

You will like the Leon Bianco. There are only two flights of steps, and both times, when we rang the bell, they rushed down to help us. The rooms are very large. The bathrooms are new. I have stayed in three of their 6 rooms and liked them all. There is nothing like having your breakfast delivered to the door and sitting at a little table looking out on the Grand Canal. The largest room does not look on the Grand Canal but has a huge bathroom, but, as I remember, no shower, only tub. After I returned from my last trip in November, I emailed them for the address of a shop I was trying to remember, and they went to great lengths to get me the details.

Marty,

You're right about the flights of stairs..I know I wrote 4 flgihts probably because it seemed that way w/ overpacked suitcases..and they were long flights of stairs. The hotel is great though.

Mariarosa, a post would be good (or e-mail) when you get back. And Marty, thanks for the info on the stairs--I've been obsessing about them to the point of *almost* changing my mind, especially since Paolo said he wanted to try the hotel before he had a heart problem.

Sue, I've never had heart problems; but I can't assure that this clean record will remain forever

What about the a/c issue for those travelling in summer? Sandi, Marty? Do they have a couple of those portable units?

Paulo

Since Andrea (at the hotel) responds so quickly via email, why don't you ask them if they have portable AC units. I've only been there in the fall when they weather happened to be perfect.

I stayed there in June and November. We had a fan in June, but no air conditioning; we weren't hot. I really couldn't see where it could be installed, because the tall windows in the rooms open into the rooms. It would be worth asking though. I suspect that accounts for the great price.

I am also thinking about the Hotel Wildner in Venice if anyone has information. Also considering Hotel Violino D'Oro.
