Hotel in Venice
I have been there long ago, but need a hotel and recommendations for dinner, etc. I love 5* but only want to pay 4* or less, I want a view of the canal, a quiet, precious room. I would like to have fabulous appetizers for dinner with an awesome view. Could I be dreaming??? I did experience this at a younger age, but didn't take time to write down.

Hotel Londra Palace?

http://www.hotelondra.it

Haven't stayed here but decided it is where we will stay if we visit again. Although it is not cheap, I think it meets your criteria.

We stayed at the Hotel Gabriella Sandwirth which was pleasant rather than wonderful. View across the lagoon from the room however was great.

Look into the hotel Colombina or the Ca'Pisani. They are small hotels, but with all services. Colombina is on a small canal behind the Piazza. Ca'Pisani is near the Accademia Bridge. I just can't recall if any of the latter's rooms have canal views.
I have not stayed at either hotel, but have "inspected" them. The Colombina is just a year or two old, charming decor, rooms decent size and plenty of light (at least the ones I saw), good bathrooms, nice public areas.
The Ca'Pisani has a more modern decor with some art deco influences. Their "junior suite" had two bathrooms and a jacuzzi. Good restaurant on the premises.

People also speak highly of the Metropole but I don't know the rooms except for the grand lobby. Great location near the Danieli.

I note one of the author's comments about the Colombina. I havent stayed there but I met an American lawyer last year in Rome who had stayed there and he was very impressed with it.
I have also read good reports about it in the forum.
Hope this helps. I wouldnt go any less than a 4 star in Venice unless its recommended.

Hotel Ala is charming. The public areas are nothing special but their larger rooms that face a small canal are beautiful. The hotel has a pretty good breakfast and the location is ideal. It is between St Marco and Accademia bridge and the hotel is very easy to find after a day of sightseeing.
