Guggenheim Bilbao area Secure Parking
Does anyone know if there are safe, secured parking garages or lots near the Guggenheim in Bilbao? We will have our luggage in our car trunk.

the sheraton is practicaly across the street. ther is also a mall.
prk the car trunk against a wall.
also, i read a clever idea on how to at least make an effort to thwart the quick thieves from getting your luggage out of the trunk.
you string a cable through all the bags and through part of the trunk lid or somewhere, and then lock it.
sounds like a good idea to me.
they suggested doing that on trains, too.

We were at the Guggenheim 2 weeks ago and had a horrible time finding parking. We were arriving late in the afternoon and traffic was horrible and we couldn't find any signs for underground parking. I did see cars coming out of parking, but couldn't find the entrances. I hope you have better luck than we did.
We drove in circles going to the left and the right of the Guggenheim, trying to find on street parking. That's almost impossible also. Finally we got lucky and got a spot, right across the street from the museum, on the street in front of Subway Sandwich shop. An older couple were standing in it waiting for a taxi! By the way, the parking meters were around the corner, not on the same street as the parking spots. Don't park here, thinking you don't need to buy a parking ticket. Ask shop owners and find the meters!

You can park at the Zubiarte Mall, very close to the Guggenheim (5´walk), opposite the Sheraton. In any case, if you park in the street you shouldn´t have any problems with being robbed. Bilbao is a very safe city.

mikelg.. i cannot believe it would be safe in any large city to leave your luggage in the car on a public street.
perhaps bilbao is safer than others.. but this is not a good habit to have while travelling.
at least under cover and with trunk against the wall, the parking money is well worth it although not 100% secure either.

Of course there´s always a risk, but I bet his car is safer in the street than in a parking. Once again, Bilbao is a very safe town (wouldn´t call it a big city), and this type of crime is not very common.
Parking garages are not very big here, so your car will also be well kept and safe. As it is very close, Zubiarte parking is the best option (enter through Sagrado Corazón square towards Guggenheim, can´t miss it).
