Hit Testaccio. I think Perilli is one of the best in town. It is on Via Marmorata. In the historic center I recommend Da Gino, and Sacrastia and of course Sora Margherita in the Jewish ghetto.

Enjoy!

Testaccio is the place to go for traditional Roman food. I also like Perilli. Checchino dal 1887 is, to me, the best restaurant in Rome. It has an cozy yet elegant dining room and the wine cellar (under Monte Testaccio) is superb. You can request a tour of it which is very interesting. I'm not sure if I would describe it as "beautiful" but it is an elegant restaurant with excellent Roman food. Certainly the restaurant at the Hilton, La Pergola, has a beautiful view and lovely setting. I wouldn't describe the cuisine as particularly Roman but it does have three Michelin stars. Both the Hotel Eden and Hotel Hassler have fancy dining rooms on their top floors with views but the food, to me is over-rated and very expensive. Vecchia Roma in the Ghetto has a lovely patio which, at night, makes for a beautiful, romantic setting among the medieval buildings and cobblestones of that neighborhood. Same with Camponeschi which is an elegant restaurant on Piazza Farnese. Very beautiful when the fountains of the Piazza and the Palace which is now the French Embassy, is lit up at night. Great food too.

The very best is La Pergola on the rooftop of the Cavalieri Hilton. Take a taxi from downtown.

Camponeschi is one of our favorites. The setting is just breathtaking at night, and the food is wonderful. Last year while having dinner there a young man got down on this knee and proposed to his girlfriend right next to us. Needless to say the entire terrace was clapping and there were drinks all around to help celebrate. We try to eat there every summer while in Rome.

Have a drink in the garden of the De Russie Hotel, another beautiful spot. Their breakfast buffet out in the garden is also great!

Pierre Luigi sp? is a favorite for a typical italian restaurant, Again it's fun to sit out in the piazza and watch the world go by as we enjoy a great meal.

Quincy and Gabriella for seafood is wonderful. Great service and the freshest fish.
