Florence to Pisa Airport - Train or Limo?

We have to get from Florence to Pisa Airport for a flight at 11:55 am.

Should we take the train or hire a driver or taxi to get there?

I looked up Trenitalia and it looks like there is a train from Florence that actually stops at Pisa airport.
1) Is this true?

2) Is it difficult to get from the Pisa Airport train station to the actual airport? How long will it take us to get to the airline check-in terminal?

3) The schedule says 8:57 in Florence arrives 10:10 at Pisa Airport - does that sound right? And will that give us enough time to get the 11:55 flight?

4) Or if you recommend we hire a driver does anyone have an agency to recommend? How much will it cost and how long will the drive take at that hour?

Thanks!!!

From my sister's previous experience, she took a train from the Pisa airport to Florence and she had to change at some point in between. She said it was a good thing that someone told her, otherwise she would never had known. There is also a bus called TerraVision which I believe goes from Florence directly to Pisa airport. You can look at www.terravision.com. The reason she did not take it, is they run infrequently and she had just missed one. Taking a taxi would probably be very expensive and not worth it, since you are not going late at night or early morning.

According to the Pisa Airport website - www.pisa-airport.com - the airport train station is 40 meters by covered walkway from the terminal and there are 8 direct trains daily to Florence. The fare is E5.10. The Trenitalia schedule shows trains direct to Pisa airport leaving at 7:32 and 8:07 arriving at 9:06 and 9:30. Either of these would seem to be a better choice than the one you mention since it requires a change at Pisa Centrale and would be cutting it pretty close.

Thanks everyone.
Has anyone ever taken a flight from Florence's airport? I read it is only 15 minutes from central Florence by taxi and that since it is a very small airport that you only need to get there about 45 minutes before international flights. - Our flight is to London.
Does that timing make sense?

Yes, the Florence airport is that close to the center of town. 45 minutes might be adequate, but I always allow more time--at least an hour--for unforeseen complications. I'd rather breeze through checkin and sit than worry on a long line.

Hi Paul -

We took the train from the Pisa airport to the Florence station - direct with no changes. Take a look at trenitalia for the schedule. We took the train last October when we arrived in Pisa. The station is an easy walk (I believe around 5 min or less) from the airport (I can't recall if it's covered the entire way). My husband and I both had 24" rolling suitcases and we had no problems. We chose the train because a number of the other people on the flight were using the coach service and we didn't want to be crammed on the bus. We had a lovely train ride into Florence with the railcar all to ourselves.

Florence to Pisa airport by train is easy.
There are direct trains , but the change at Pisa Central is not difficult if the direct trains are inconvenient. As stated, the Airport station is next door to the airport, from the end of the platform to the departures section is no more than 100 yards.

I have no experieince of Florence airport, but as far as I know the only flights from there to London are Meridian flights to Gatwick (I am open to correction).

Thanks everyone. Yes the flight from Florence airport to London is Meridiana Air landing at Gatwick. Is either the airline or Gatwick a problem????

Paulo - I have never used Meridiana, so cannot comment, but I havn't seen any particularly bad reports about them.

Gatwick is the 2nd biggest of London's 5 airports - the busiest single runway airport in the world. I certainly wouldn't worry about flying into it.
