First Time In Prague
Hi Everyone!
I have never been to Prague and have many wonderful things about it from people who have been. We are thinking about going there this coming November for our much delayed honeymoon. We have exactly a week for this trip. And since flying there takes a day and flying back takes another day, we really only have like 4 days to explore Prague. Is this sufficient? Also, since I've never been there, I really have no idea how much I should expect to spend there. Are things generally speaking expensive out in Prague....food and souvenirs? How much can I expect to be spending during my 4 days out there not including accommodations and airfare? Thanks!!
Cheers,
Shi

Hi shiuri,
4 days should be plenty to see Prague itself, as long as you don't want to take any side trips.
there are hotels in all price brackets, but as this is a honeymoon, you might like to splash out a bit - there are lots of "boutique" hotels, and quite a few recommended on this forum.
as for spending money, it's not an expensive place. food and drink is reasonably priced as are things like opera tickets [it's a beautiful theatre and worth going just for that], sight-seeing entrance prices, etc.
you should have a wonderful time.
regards, ann

I think 4 days is more than enough. I am not sure if it may be too much, maybe others may want to suggest others areas to visit nearby. I can spend months in Paris, but after 3 days in Prague, I had pretty much seen the highlites. I am sure others will disagree.
I did NOT find Prague inexpensive, in fact I found it almost as expensive as any other major European city, in both food and hotel exp.
Prague has changed much in value in the past two years

Shi,
I have a trip report (Maitais Central European Excursion) going right now. We spent five nights and four days in Prague this past May. I think you will find plenty to do. You could do a day trip out to Kutna Hora or a couple of the castles if you wanted to break it up a little. We loved Prague, and in the trip report I mention some restaurants we liked. Have fun.

Prague is a lovely and beautiful place for a honeymoon.
Four days is plenty for Prague itself. The surrounding castles and countryside is gorgeous, too, but you can save that for your next trip!
I do not know what your budget is but Prague is getting to be almost as expensive as other European cities (not like London, though). However, if you plan very well and do research you can find lovely B&Bs or pensions for under 75 euros for a double. On the other hand, as this is your honeymoon, there are gorgeous splurge boutique hotels, too, if that is your desire.
My favourite (and many others, too) restaurant is David's. Lovely food, ambience and atmosphere. Perfect for a honeymoon!
Just watch every single restaurant bill you get as all kinds of extra charges can creep on to it. It happened to us a few times but as we carefully scrutinized each bill we were able to fix the problem. They can be pretty sneaky! You can easily get hearty decent meals for under $20 or even $10.
I'm sure you already know this but what the heck. For stupendous views over the city of orange-tiled rooftops climb up to the castle. You can get there by stairs or via streets (streets are less strenuous). Another spot for lovely views is from Petrin Hill. And of course Charles Bridge early in the morning or night is breathtakingly beautiful.

I was in Prague in June. We were there 4 nights. One day was used to take a trip to Cesky Krumlov.
Thus we had 2 and a half days to see Prague. NOT enough, no way was it enough.
If you have 4 FULL days, then you can do a few things more than what we did.
I plan to go back and I will allow 5 nights with one day trip.
The day I arrive was the half day because we did not reach our hotel until after 12 noon.
I did not find Prague to be appreciably different in prices than other medium sized European towns.
Tram tickets were reasonable, but other prices were not much different.
Hotels were cheaper than places like London, that is for sure, but I think it depends on where you stay.
There is a Prague for many budgets, from $400 a night to around $100 a night for a hotel room.

I think four days is a good amount of time for Prague.
Depends what your idea of "expensive" is. IMO, and I've been there 3 times in the last 8 years, is that it is not expensive, but hotels are priced about the same as other major Western European capitals (except London, which is the most expensive). But I found everything else a big cheaper.
No one can really answer what you'll spend, we don't know your tastes and habits.

Thanks guys for all the replies! It was all very helpful! Has anyone been out to Brno? Between Brno and Cesky Krumlov, which is a must visit? Also, has anyone here stayed at The Icon Boutique Hotel? Any suggestions? This trip is not only a long belated honeymoon....it's also our first year anniversary! So I am super excited!! ^_^
Thanks!
