The roads are very curvy and it is a beautiful route. We didn't drive it but we transported by bus and it was a nice comfortable one. If you DO drive you will want to drop your car off the moment you get near Granada because it is hectic driving around the city.

Sorry -
I disagree - we drove all over Spain (Seville to Cordoba to Marbella to Granada to Madrid) and found that the driving conditions are generally very good. The roads are in good repair, signage easy to understand, there is litle highway traffic except near resorts along the coast and driving in the cities is quite easy - also not much traffic (at least compared to New York).

NTtraveler, I agree that the roads are good. Wwe also drove in Spain, from Seville through the Pueblos Blancos and on to Granada. We were VERY glad that we picked up the car on our way out of Seville and that we were scheduled to drop off our car on our arrival day in Granada. I have driven in many areas in Europe but I prefer to avoid driving in busy foreign cities. Oh, JARnubbit, I think it was about three hours by bus from Granada to Malaga.

We did this drive and I think it's less than 2 hours. Check it out on Mappy.com.
The roads were fine--no problem at all. If you're going to Alhambra, there is a parking lot outside that is fairly reasonable. (Don't let the young men on the road by the restuarant before you get there tell you there's no more parking there and you should park at the restaurant.)
Have a great trip.
