Connecting in Munich

I have booked my spring trip to Italy and I am thirlled! However, I am flying United/Lufthansa from Dulles to Munich and then Munich to Florence. But I only have an hour to change at Munich! Will I make it? Has anyone changed planes in Munich and is an hour enough time!?? HELP!! Thanks!

I have never changed planes at Munich, but I would bet on your success. It's an excellent airport, and I have been in and out several times. I have never seen even a fraction of the crowds or chaos one sees at so many other airports.

Best wishes,

Rex

I just flew from Milan to Munich and had to catch a connection to L.A. two weeks ago. We only had 50 minutes. Because of the horrendous lines and slow customs guy, plus an extensive search of my wife's luggage we were about the last people to get on the plane (but we did make it).

There was a thread about this on the board right about the time I got back. Put "Beware Munich Airport" in the search box and it should come up.

Good luck and enjoy Firenze.

Hi Ivy,
We are on much the same sked, except going on from Munich to Rome, but same deal; just one hour. Fortunately United and Luft. are in the same terminal, which should help.

I'm fairly confident that we'll make the connection..my concern is whether our luggage will. Anyone have experience here?

Well, my luggage made it on that flight a couple of weeks ago, and as I said, we only had 50 minutes in between flights, so that should bode well for you.

We were a tad concerned because Lufthansa did lose our luggage in 2001, but they went on strike while we were in midair (no kidding). You should be ok, but in the wacky world of air travel there are no guarantees.

I can't speak for Munich, but Lufthansa has a bad track record for getting my luggage transferred during short connections. Frankfurt was the worst.

I would suggest taking some toiletries and change of clothing on your carry on. If you're not staying in Florence for a day or so after you arrive, no telling when you will meet up with your luggage.

Thanks everyone. Any idea which terminal I will arrive and depart from? Is it the new terminal 2?

Sorry stupid way to phrase the question! Anyone know what terminal United comes into at Munich airport? I think it's terminal 2 which is also the Lufthansa terminal. But my return flight from italy to munich is on something called Air Dolomiti S P A. anyone know which terminal that airline comes into?? Thanks!

You might try using the www.airwise.com website to check out airport terminal particulars or better yet go to the Munich airport website (Google will find it for you).
Recently change in Munich, used Lufthansa, had less than an hour, luggage made it and so did we. Fewer people to deal with than in Frankfurt, too. Good luck.

Any airline that is a member of the Star Alliance, e.g. Lufthansa, United (and I think Air Dolomiti, too) should arrive and depart at the new Terminal 2.
Thus, you should be able to make it.
