On transit at Munich airport

Is there anything interesting to see or do, during a 5-hour (from 6.00am to 11.00am)
transit at the Munich Airport. Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

The S bahn train will take you right from Munich airport to downtown in less than 30min. From there you can browse downtown Munich for a little while.

I'm not sure I would do as J62 suggests. I believe it is more like 50 minutes into Munich from the airport.

Do you really think it would be worth the traveling time (100+ minutes) just to have a very short visit into Munich?

Maybe someone has a suggestion of something to see/do closer to the airport.

When we were at Munich airport, there really didn't seem to be anything to do there. Sorry!

Whoops, meant to add, too, that activities in Munich at 7 or 8 am surely are limited!

My ride from Marienplatz on the S-bahn was closer to 45 minutes than 30 minutes.
You will of course need to go through security at the Munich airport.

If you are taking a flight within Europe, security is minimal. You must get to the gate, just like here, so you would need to be back with an hour or so to spare. That means a 9:15 departure from the city center.

If you are flying to the USA, the security procedure is much more thorough than it is for intra European flights.
The last 3 times I have departed from Munich International for the USA, the security procedures have become much more efficient, and they are very thorough.

At that hour of the morning in downtown Munich , about all you can do is look at the clock on the Rathaus.

When I transfer there on an intra Europe flight I still have to go through that security check line just before you get to the gates. Sometimes that line is very long and time consuming.

Fortunately, the old town is relatively compact and is very easily walkable. Marienplatz, Theatinestrasse, City Hall, Frauenkirche, Feldherrnhalle and the Residenz/Kaiser-hof are all close by.
90 minutes to two hours may be enough to at least see what the place looks like.
