changing planes--which airport worse?
I finally have enough miles on United to get to Paris! Unfortunately, there is no nonstop from San Francisco anymore. It looks like my choices for layovers are Dulles, Philadelphia and O'Hare. Which would be the least torturous?

I always fly out of Dulles and have never had any problems. Flown out of PHL once with no problem.
I try my best to not flight into/out of O'Hare because it is known for having major delays.
Happy travels!

In our 7 years overseas - for 6 of those years we flew thru Dulles. O'Hare was a hassle (well, that was many 8 years ago) and we just flew thru Philly and it was a mess. Dulles, to me, (and I was doing it with kids) was a breeze.

Wow, I'm surprised that Dulles is getting so many favorable (relatively) votes. The last time I changed planes from Paris there was awful. Such huge lines to get our luggage on the domestic flight to SFO that we almost missed our flight. My question was prompted by wanting to avoid Dulles.
Maybe I will have to bury that stressful memory and move on. Thanks for answering, everybody. Wish my FF miles were on Delta/Air France--they have a nonstop. But of course, Kerouac, you are right--I'm thrilled to be going at all!

"Kerouac, maybe you haven't had the great pleasure of traveling 10 hrs in steerage as we on the west coast of the US are forced to endure."
roflmao. What wimps! What about Australians travelling to Europe? It takes us about 24 hours.
