for some reason this shows marked as a trip report..
Why not go to both?
They are only a boat ride away from each other..
we stayed at www.villanettunopositano.it
It was fine.

Sorry, i just started using it so i must have clicked trip report by accident. i don't think we have time to go to both. We are only go away for 9 days, and are spending 3 days in Paris. Thanks for your quick response.

Capri is entirely too crowded and overrun with day trippers. It takes time to see the real beauty of the sland.
I woul d opt for Positano. Thr beauty is immediate and the entire Amalfi Coast is a paradise you don't have to go looking for it. Holiday House Gilda is remarkably located and remarakably priced. We also used Positano Adventure Walks that do a bit of everything very well and in English.

We've done the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and Capri trip before, and when we do go back, we will base in Positano. A quick boat ride brings you to other coastal towns, and to Capri. If you do go to Capri, make a beeline to Anacapri, the other side of the island. No commercialization and great beauty.

My wife and I just spent 4 nites in each place and loved both. We like to be active. There's a lot to see and do in Capri to fill 3-5 days, assuming you enjoy walking. The day trippers really miss a lot. The Amalfi Coast can be experienced in 3-5 days, too. Again there's a fair amount of walking involved. If we had 6 nites, as it sounds like you might, I'd split my time between them unless you want to see Pompeii which would take a full day from Positano and would make me suggest 2 nites on Capri and 4 in Positano.
