Does anyone know of villages near Bastogne called Mannincour or Clemery? The spelling may be way off, as I cannot find these villages on a map. I have the names from my father's written story about his actions Dec 26 during the Battle of the Bulge (he lost his right arm in the battle). He said he was "approaching Bastogne" and mentions Mannincour and Clemery.
My husband and I will visit Bastogne next May, and I would also like to find these villages if possible so we can follow his path. If anyone knows of towns of similar names near Bastogne, I would love to have some help with this. Thanks very much!

He was with the 318th infantry. He was on his way to Bastogne on the morning of Dec 26th, when he was shot. So if I could find these villages, I would have an idea of his path toward Bastogne, perhaps. Thanks so much!

We need a Division number. there are more than one 318th infantry.

For example, there was a 318th infantry with the 80th Div that was assigned to the 3rd Army near Harnoncourt, Belgium, about 70km from Bastogne, on 26 Dec, 1944.

The only thing I'm at all familiar with is a town called Clemency in Luxembourg. But this is at least 30 miles from Bastogne - so it sound like that is too far.

If you contact the office of the specific group he was with - can;t they provide this info (I know a cousin of mine did this for realtives in WWI and they had a bunch of info).

I am sorry but I don't have any information about your dad's unit. I did find by using google that I was able to come up with a number of reference sites for my dad's unit and a map which basically tracked their movements. My dad was shot on December 28 just outside of Bastogne. It must have been horrible for all of them.

Barbara: I can't locate these villages, but here is some information that may help you.

The 1st and 2nd battalions of the 318th Infantry were part of the 80th Infantry Division, which was rushed along with the 26th ID and the 4th Armored Division from Lorraine to break through to the encircled garrison at Bastogne.

As part of this operation, the 80th Division advanced from the Arlon area to Ettelbruck (Luxembourg), but on Christmas Eve, the two battalions of the 318th were then temporarily assigned to the 4th Armored, as the terrain required infantry.

On December 25th and 26th, both battalions were fighting to the south of Bastogne in the vicinty of the villages of Hollange, Chaumont, Hompré, and Tintange, and I imagine it was in the fighting near one of these that your father was wounded.

There is a village named Clémery about half way between Nancy and Metz. You can go to www.viamichelin.com and search for town names which will bring up local maps in good detail.
