Help! Steve James and others-I need to locate Piccili

I am going to the Amalfi Coast area in September. My uncle's unit, the 36th Division, was camped in a village named Piccili (sp?) in early 1944. The village was just off Highway 6 and just south of Monte Cassino. I cannot find it on any map.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

I suspect you are looking for Tore e Piccilli: I know this one because it is near my B-I-L's home town.

Hi Jinx - Here's a map:

http://maps.google.it/maps?oi=eu_map...illi&hl=it

(The nearest exit on the A1 autostrada is Caianello).

You can find some photos and a 360 panoramic image of Tora and Piccilli on this link:

Do you read Italian? If yes, you might find this useful:

Hope this helps ...

Incredible!! Thanks so much, all of you.

My uncle says that when they were encamped there (actually late November/early December, 1943), there came a raging storm--very cold and driving sleet that leveled their tents. He spent the rest of the night in a feed trough in a barn.

I look forward to seeing Tora e Piccilli in September--thanks to you!

Cheers,
