Accommodation in or around PAU???

Calling all Fodorites who know the Basque region... can anyone recommend a smallish hotel in or around Pau? We like charming hotels with lots of cachet. Not much on the web so far.

Try googling logis-de-france/pau. I just did and found a couple of places that might suit, though I'm not sure if the quantity of cachet will meet your requirements.

Louanne: Sorry about that. I was referring to the guidebook imprint; they have an excellent book that covers Pau and the Basque country. I don't know why Cadogan guides are not more popular here; they cover areas that Fodors does not have much detail about:

louanne, check with your library, they might have one of the cadogan guides. Unfortunately they are not very popular--NO PHOTOS , the one I am using is from 1995 but it is still helpful for planning a trip to Southwest France.

Thank you both, I will check Cadogan: strange, I'm not familiar at all with the name.

Another question for you Ekscrunchy: I researched both the Montpensier and the Bristol, and am getting a fair sense of what each has to offer. There is little information about them in the travel forums... Which one would be your choice?

Louanne I would not want to guess on this as I have not stayed in either hotel. Let's see if anyone else here has information..

I consulted various guidebooks, and all were positive about Hotel Bristol. But I'd still like to talk to someone who ahs been there.
